Five:: Math

Louis walked into school, and grimaced when he saw blondie, Niall, walking up to him. He remembered, only all too well, what had gone down on Friday night at his party. And honestly, he'd completely regretted it. It wasn't fair of him to use the boy to make Harry jealous. He shouldn't of involved him in the situation, because now there was a good chance the boy would be attached.

When Niall got close enough to talk to Louis, he smiled. "Hey, Louis," he said, showing off his white teeth.

"Who are you?" Louis asked, feigning stupidity.

"I'm the guy you slept with Friday night at your party," Niall whispered. Louis could've sworn he caught tears on the boy's eyes, but he chose to ignore them.

"I'm sorry, I'm not a fag," Louis whispered to him. "You must have the wrong guy."

Now, Louis saw that Niall was really crying now. The tears flooded out of Niall's eyes, as he went running back towards his locker. Louis felt a bit guilty at it, but it had to be done. After all, Niall had to realize that he couldn't just come up to Louis in the middle of the school. Not when Louis didn't want the whole school to know he was gay.

The day passed by rather quickly, and soon Louis found himself in Math. The one subject he was absolutely horrible at, and here he was, in it. He could pass all his other classes rather easily. It was always Math that he had problems with.

"Hey man," Blake said, sitting down next to Louis. "How much of last night's homework did you get done?"

"This much," Louis said, grabbing the worksheet out of his binder, and showing it to his best friend.

Blake looked worried. "You only did what we did in class together?"

"I don't understand factoring!" Louis accidentally snapped. He didn't mean to sound so ornery, it was just that he'd never been good at Math, and he was always doing terrible in it. He was lucky to be scraping by thanks to Blake's tutelage.

"How about I come over after practice, yeah?" Blake asked. "I'll help you understand factoring a bit better. If you don't pick up your grades, Coach is bound to kick you off the team."

"Thanks," Louis said, grasping Blake's hand in his.

"No problem mate," Blake said, playfully shoving his shoulder against Louis's.

Just then, the teacher walked in, and said, "Hello class. I have your guys' quizzes from last week graded." She started handing them out, and when she placed Louis's on his desk, upside down, she said, "See me after class Mr. Tomlinson." Some of the geeks behind Louis started laughing, and Louis turned around, giving them a mutinous look. That shut them right up.

Louis tersely flipped the quiz over, and groaned when he saw the big fat F on it. Somehow he had managed to get every single question wrong, even though he had thought he'd done pretty decent on this one.

"Damn, boy, coach is going to flip once he sees this," Blake whispered. "You know he told you that you need to do good in order to stay on the team."

"I know, you don't have to remind me," Louis grumbled.

They went through the class at that point, and Louis honestly tried his best to keep up with what the teacher was talking about. But, it was so hard, because it seemed as though she was talking in a foreign language. The only good that came out of it was that she gave the class an extra day to finish the homework Louis hadn't done the night before.

"Mr. Tomlinson," she said, as Louis was about to leave with Blake when the bell rang. "I thought I told you to stay after class."

"Sorry Ms. Adams," Louis said, walking back into class.

"I'm worried about you, Mr. Tomlinson," Ms. Adams said briskly. "It seems as though you don't comprehend what we're learning in this class. You've been struggling all year, and now we're entering the part where you need to pay attention. Factoring is one of the hardest subjects in math."

"I'm sorry, Ms. Adams," Louis muttered. "I can't seem to keep track of how to do things, all the numbers get mixed up, and I can never remember half the rules."

"You're on the football team, right?"

"Yeah," Louis said, fearing where this turn of conversation was going.

"Well, I talked to Coach Seth about your last quiz, and we both agree that until you can bring your grade up in this class, you're banned from playing."

"But, we're playing the Eagles tomorrow night," Louis interjected. "I'm the only goalie we have."

"Which is why you're playing tomorrow, but after that, the team is going to have to find a new goalie until you can pick your grades up, Mr. Tomlinson. This is for your own good. Did you ever look into getting a tutor?"

"My friend Blake helps me out," Louis said.

"Mr. Sternitsky needs to focus on his Science grade, last time I checked he wasn't doing so hot in Chemistry. No, I have an excellent tutor for you. Do you know Niall Horan?"

Louis couldn't help but letting out a groan. Out of everyone in the school, of course the Math teacher would suggest the one person he didn't want to talk to, to be his tutor.
