Kris plopped down in a chair that look very comfortable and was in a position to where he could see everyone in the room and vice versa. Everyone had taken their own seats when I realized that I had no idea where to sit. I wanted to sit next to Kris but there was no place. He smiled and patted the arm of his chair. I carefully perched next to him and he wrapped his arm around my waist. It felt so natural for some reason. I couldn't shake the feeling that this was where I was supposed to be.
They told me about how they had grown up together. They had always gone to each others houses but they had the most fun here at Kris's. Many games of hide and seek, sleep overs for the boys, and summer days with lots of pretend battles. I found that Libby and I had a few things in common. We both liked to read. They didn't remember the girl that was supposed to be with them but they each felt her loss.
"Its like we feel that the good times can start when she gets back." Adam described it.
It became quiet and I could tell that they were as curious about me as I was about them. After a few awkward moments, Kirsten seemed about to explode.
"Ok so can we see her morph now? Ouch! What?! I know I'm not the only one who wants to see." Kirsten exclaimed as Libby smacked her with a pillow.
"Excuse Miss Outburst, but we are a bit curious." Adam elaborated.
I hesitated. We aren't going to make you do anything that you don't want to do. Kris hugged me reassuringly. I nodded and ducked behind his chair. Even though I had morphed infront of him, I wasn't exactly ready or bold enough to do it in front of them. I felt the familiar tugging and pulling that went with changing and padded out to stand in front of them.
I kept my gaze focused down even as some gasped. A rosy blush tinted my mind. Don't be so shy. Hold your head high, you're an Alpha. Kris pushed with his mind.
"But..But I thought only Alphas could do that, Kris? Whats going on?" Libby conquered the elephant in the room first.
"Apparently Raven is one. I want to talk to some more people but the proof is obviously in front of us." He gestured to me and shrugged.
I went around the back of his chair again and picked up my clothes in my teeth. Where's the bathroom? It would be more than a little embarrassing to get dressed in front of them. This was the one inconvenience about morphing. Your clothes didn't morph too. I headed where he showed me mentally and came back to sit where I had previously once I was decent.
"How can there be two Alphas?" Tyler asked.
Kris and I exchanged a look and he decided to take this one. "There used to be an Alpha for each family. Some families married their Alphas and the number dwindled. My guess is Raven inherited the status from her family. Her being the oldest is what accounts for it."
"I've never known that I was an Alpha. I thought it was just part of my family. But its slightly odd when I'm the only one of my generation to inherite the trait. I don't even know what non-Alpha werewolf looks like."
LIbby perked up. "She needs to meet Justin."
I quizically glanced at Kris. "He is apart of another group of Hiddens. The Zenorias. He isn't an Alpha. He looks a tad bit like the movie version of a werewolf. Not as vicious to be sure. And he is in more control of himself. But he does change when his anger or excitement gets the best of him."
I tried to imagine this and then Kris did something I wasn't expecting. He put a picture of Justin in my head. I gasped. First of all, how did he do that? Second, it was true. This Justin looked a bit odd though for a werewolf. I was only used to seeing myself and Kris. Is this really what others looked like?
Adam started at my gasp. "What?"
I paused for a second. Have you told them?
No. I thought it would be our thing but I guess now we probably should.
I nodded and began. "We don't know how we are able to do this. I guess it might be an Alpha thing but we can get into each others minds and see what the other is thinking or feeling."
"It happened by accident the night we met." Kris concluded.
They sat there and absorbed our information quietly. Tyler just looked like he would fall asleep at any moment. All of the sudden though, Libby jumped up and ran out of the room. I looked at Kris and he seemed as bewildered as I felt. We heard a squeal and as we were about to run after her, Libby appeared in the room. She was really excited about something.
"I had a hunch but this proves it." She held up what looked like an old diary. "Kris, do you remember this?"
He nodded. "Yea. Its my great great great great grandfather's journal."
"Wasn't he an Alpha also?"
Realization dawned on Kris's face. He might have answers. Why didn't I think of this before? He mentally facepalmed himself.
"What? What? Am I missing something here?" I was about ready to snatch the book out of Libby's hands. Instead Kris took it from her.
"Thanks Libby. We'll look over this and see if we can find some answers in it." He turned and went up some stairs. Well aren't you coming? I waved a short bye and followed him.
Kirsten rolled her eyes as she caught what happened. "I can tell this mind thing is going to get annoying." She had no idea.
