So, let's start with one of the most popular songs by green day. 
All green day fans probably know that billie suffered from various panic disorders while he was growong up. He would sometimes wake up in the middle of the night and walk around his neighborhood to calm down.
Basket case was a personal song for him and he said that the only way to deal with it , is to write a song about it.
Basket case actually is slang for an emotionally unstable dysfunctional or completely useless person (for all of u who didn't know that xD)
He also said that the song has changed it's meaning over the years. It's about other people now. It's an anthem for weirdos and about losing your mind.
