Blood For Blood- (Cashby)

Chapter One-

Layla's POV-

I leaned my head against the cold, dirty window of the bus. The bus taking me away from this place I once called home. But I've called lots of places home. I know it's not the right solution to just run away whenever something goes wrong, but that's the only way I can cope. Just run. Leave everyone without telling them where you're going or why. I don't know where I'm going, I don't know what I'm going to do, all I know is that I want to start over. I need to start over. I've made too many mistakes, I've hurt to many people, I've been hurt to many times I almost can't feel it anymore.

It's dark out. I don't know where I am. There's no one else on the bus except me and the man driving. It slowly came to a stop, the breaks screeching making me cringe.

"This is the last stop, miss." The bus driver said. So I grab my backpack, my skateboard, swing my guitar on my back and hop off the bus, thanking the driver on the way out. The only lights around are some city lights from a far. A field is to my right and to my left is the road to the city. Behind me is the dirt road which I just came from. I sigh and put my headphones in, Roger Rabbit by Sleeping With Sirens blares through my earphones. A slight smile appears on my face, but as usual it fades away quickly. I walk along the lonely road that leads to the city and see a sign. It reads 'San Diego 3 Miles'. Headlights shine from behind me, so I turn around and the car stops beside me.

"Hey, you want a lift?" The deep voiced man asked me through the open car window. I nod and he opened the door for me. I climbed in, put my belongings in the backseat, and once I pull my seatbelt on, he began to drive off again. I tried to see what he looked like, but it was too dark to see his face. He broke the silence between us. "I'm Austin, by the way."

"Layla." I said boldly. I don't really like being around strangers. Or people really. I tried to be polite so I took out my headphones and put them in my jeans pocket. I stared out the window at the dark, starless sky. A quiet sigh made it way from my lips. Why did I get in the car with this guy? He could be a murderer for all I know. Now I was just being paranoid. He snapped me away from my thoughts with the question I was asking myself.

"So, where do you want me to drop you?"

'Off a cliff' I thought. But honestly I had no idea. "I...I don't know," I paused. "Wherever I guess...it doesn't really matter." I muttered.

He sighed, but said nothing more. I felt so light headed. I haven't eaten in a while. I've been on the road going from bus to bus for about three days. I watched out the window at the trees and occasional house pass by. I don't really want to think about what I'm running from or why, so I try to push those thoughts back. The man, Austin, turned on the radio, music played softly through the car. I think the song was Bleed Black by AFI. After the song ended the news came on.

'This is an emergency broadcast. Please stay on your homes and refrain from going outside or searching for loved ones. There seems to be a disease that has spread out over California. No one knows what it is or what caused it. The symptoms include; dizziness, craving for human flesh, and caniblism. Please don't panic, we will find more information.' The broadcast stopped leaving me shocked. Austin pulled the car over just before we entered the city. The moonlight shined through the window, it lit up his face. He had short brown hair, and muscular arms. He looked over at me with a scared expression spread on his face.

"Was that legit?" I spoke first. He ran a hand through his hair and nodded slowly.

"I think so..." He muttered.

"What should we do?" I asked him.

"I don't know. I need to go home and see if my friend is okay. Do you have any friends or family around here that you can stay with?" He asked. I shook my head. The only family I was still in contact with was my brother Matty, and he lives back in New York.

"Well, you can stay with us until you find a place." He offered. I had no other choice so I nodded. He started the car up again and drove into the city.

About fifteen minutes passed by, neither of us saying a word. The car suddenly jolted to a stop and I looked up to see what happened. There standing in front of the car was, I think, a human. It had messy hair and dirty, ripped clothes. There was blood almost all over it's body. Mostly around it's mouth. It's skin was pale grey. It's eyes dark and blank. Austin glanced at me before driving around whatever that was.

What the fuck.
