The Great Race

I open my eyes, staring into space, but not really seeing. I blink, bringing things into focus. Its time I sit up, not really sure what its "time" for. For that matter, where AM I? Looking around the room I discover that I'm in a small cheap looking apartment. There is a personal sized fridge, crappy TV, twin sized bed, bathroom and two doors. Sitting down on the bed I try to take note of anything I can remember leading up to this. "I remember.... Nothing" no that's not true. I recall the strange blue lights. God I don't even know my own name! Eric. I shiver despite the heat. That's not my own voice in my head, that's just creepy. Not sure what else to do I stand up and start a pot of water for tea. Afterward I begin searching the apartment, a little frantically, for anything that could give me a lead as to who I am and why I'm here. I approach the small closet in the bathroom, opening the door I reach inside. At the same moment the kettle of water starts whistling, making me jump nearly out of my skin. Get a grip man, there's probably a perfectly normal explanation for all of this. Like what men in black struck again? Cracking jokes helps me to relax. So I return to my search, flicking on the light to the closet I find a jacket on a hanger. Its made with what looks like genuine leather, not that cheap fake crap. It looks really out of place in this run down motel room that probably costs less than the jacket did. Pulling it from the hanger, I slide it on. It feels really comfortable and fits me perfectly. Instinctively sliding my hand into the pocket I feel a cold metal against my warm hand. Withdrawing a glock  from inside the pocket my heart beat starts to pick up. This seems to be my jacket, but what am I doing with a GUN. My thoughts are racing through every potability when suddenly there is a pounding at the door. "POLICE OPEN UP" a deep voice bellows before knocking again. Run! I didn't need to be told twice.
