Chapter 1

7am on a Monday morning, Carla Ovane mutters to herself, oh how joyous. She pulls her body up off of her ground-bed consisting of blankets and pillows, ignoring her aching back and the paint fumes that leak from the partially dry walls. She glances up the hallway, cringing at the disgusting green colour the walls have been painted. Surely, her mother could have picked a slightly less snotty colour.

Her phone buzzes from it's charging dock on the coffee table, her temporary bedside table.

Louis <3

Morning Caz! Get yo ass up! :)

Carla flicks Louis a reply immediately.

Carla

Shut up, Lou! I'm up.

Louis <3

If you say so! Same place, same time?

Carla

Of course! See ya soon! <3

Okay, Louis and Carla have stayed close friends, very close. You could even say more than friends, because that's what they are. They're dating and have been since year eight, both currently in year eleven. When they were both innocent, fourteen year olds they decided to try dating and their relationship was strong enough to last three years, and is currently going strong. They have to keep it a secret; St. Joseph's is a highly separated school, separated in every subject except for math and science by the sexes. Luckily, Louis and Carla are in the same math class, giving them a small amount of time each day to spend within close-ish proximity of each other, throwing quick smiles and winks when nobody's looking.

They also have to keep it a secret because St. Joseph's isn't big on the whole dating thing. The main reason being because, as teens, sex becomes a rather opinionated subject and, to some, a decent option. In the catholic religion, sex is only acceptable for reproduction, so most teens wouldn't be keen to have kids, therefore, not having sex. Their idea is that if kids don't date, it won't be known or considered an option.

They are quite wrong though; there are a lot of secret relationships going on, and secret rumors stating that people have done some not-completely-acceptable things in the eyes of the catholic enthusiasts.

Apart from their time at school, they both spend most of their time together. Living next door to each other makes it very convenient and they spend most of their time together chatting, studying or watching TV, unless, of course they are out on the town on a date. They've kept it a pretty low-key relationship, but that's the way they both like it.

Carla grabs her school uniform from one of the cardboard boxes that are scattered through the living room, serving as makeshift cupboards. Carla's younger brother, Thom, who's nine, was lucky enough to get to stay in the spare/rumpus room, getting an actual bed and cupboards. She walks to the bathroom and strips down to nothing, hoping into the shower and avoiding the cold water spurting from the showerhead. Finally, the water warms up and Carla emerges herself in it.

Ten minutes later, the mirror is fogged up and the hot shower water turned off. Carla pulls on her school uniform, consisting of a navy-blue skirt, navy tights, a short sleeved, light blue, collared top with a navy blazer. She also slips on her black T-bars before going to the mirror and tying her hair up into a barely contained bun and lining her eyes in thick black eyeliner, prepared for the millionth time to be told to not wear it by her teachers. Not happening.

Declaring herself presentable, she walks downstairs to eat breakfast and get her stuff ready.

Over at Louis' home, he stands, looking in the mirror and styling his hair lightly with a bit of styling gel. He's dressed in his school uniform, navy blue dress pants, and light blue, button-up, a maroon tie and a navy blazer. The uniform, in all of the students' points of view, is atrocious. Most of the parents think so too, but many have tried to have the uniform changed, and failed.

Apart from what the parents see of their own kids, the entire school is a secret. Parents think everything is done together, but the sexes are separated in everything apart from math and science, for some unknown reason. Louis and Carla share the same math class, which is, to all other students, the only way they know each other.

Carla walks down the stairs to get herself some breakfast and pack her bag before leaving and waiting at the front of her front yard.

Louis soon emerges from the front of his own house, greeting Carla with a tight hug and a discreet kiss on the cheek.

"Mornin' Caz." He smiles.

"Same to you, Tommo." Carla chuckles, bumping Louis' shoulder with her own. They have a very healthy relationship, honest, joking and playful.

"So, what's up?" Louis asks, resting his elbow on her shoulder.

"'Bout the same as yesterday, Lou." She chuckles. "You?"

"Oh, you know, the usual. Just signing footballs for sick kids and whatever." He laughs.

"When, if, you become all famous and whatever, you should do that." Carla bites her lip in thought.

"I should. Actually, I need to start signing some in advance now." Louis boasts, causing Carla to thwack him hard across the chest with the back of her hand.

"Cocky bastard." She mutters, to which Louis laughs.

"Just kidding, Caz."

"Good," Carla mumbles a reply, faking annoyance. "Now let's get to school, I don't like the idea of being late."

The two walk to school in a comfortable silence, brushing hands frequently as discreetly as possible.

Upon arriving at the gate, they separate with a practised ease, heading over to their group of friends without as little as a nod of the head.

"Ella!" Carla shouts chirpily, speed walking over to the group of five or so girls. The group keeps the focus of a handful of other friendship groups, being loud and not in the slightest bit shy.

"Carla!" Ella replies, jogging over to Carla with a huge smile on her face. Ella had been on a six-week holiday to Australia, so everyone had missed her. Ella has short blonde hair, brown eyes and a beautiful smile. They embrace each other in a quick hug before making their way back over to their group of friends.

"Hey, Carla," Natalie, another one of their friends, says. "You know that Louis Tomlinson guy? Well, obviously, you live next to him and you guys walk to school together, though I've never seen you talk. Anyway, I swear you're the one he keeps eyeing. Everyone's been saying that he's got his eye on a girl, and I reckon it's you." Natalie gestures vaguely to Louis' group of friends. Carla turns to see Louis looking at her. He offers her a light smile, and Carla pretends to be embarrassed and waves lightly.

"Can't be, he's probably staring at one of you." Carla casually denies the claims.

"You're just too naïve to notice. Innocent little Carla!" Frankie, another friend, coos, joking, just as the bell goes.

"Anyway, see you gals later! Have a great day! Love ya's!" Carla calls, walking off to class.

The first class Carla has is English, so she grabs the needed books from her locker and walks to class.
