No, it's not, it can't be, this isn't real none of this is real, it doesn't make any sense, THIS CAN'T BE REAL.
Sam just looked at the body of what used to be his mother. The blood from the body was now staining the floor. Sam could hear voices behind him but he couldn't concentrate on them, they sounded muffled.
He looked down at his hands. They were covered in blood. His mother's blood.
Someone was shaking him but he could barely feel it. He could barely feel anything.
Suddenly he felt a sharp pain on his cheek. This snapped him back into reality.
"We have to go more are coming OK? We have to go now!" he looked over, Thomas had said that and he realized Thomas had slapped him.
Sam just nodded he felt numb to any emotions right now, numb to pain, numb to grief and numb to fear.

They ran out another door, not the one where his mother had just come through. She's gone, Sam thought and I killed her. It's like all of this hadn't been real before, like it was some horrible nightmare that he'd wake up from. But no this was real, this was real and he could die. This seemed to finally make Sam realize the hell he was now in and he snapped back into reality.

He realized they were outside and it was dark now. They were running in between buildings to God knows where, they all seemed to be just following Thomas, that's when they ran around the corner of a building and they froze. We're going to die, Sam thought. What they saw made them all more scared then they have ever been in their lives. They had run around the corner and had come to the outside basketball court. And there were about 100 of the monsters all standing around the basketball court not 20 meters away from them. They didn't run they were stunned with fear, they knew they couldn't outrun them. But after 10 seconds of standing in fearful silence nothing happened. The creatures didn't attack them, they didn't even look at them. It's as if they couldn't see them. Maybe they can't it occurred to Sam. It was very dark now and maybe they didn't have the same eyesight as they did when they were human.

Sam looked over at Thomas who appeared to be just as confused as he was. Matt was also starting to realize something was wrong. Jake was still frozen in fear. Sam looked at Thomas and Matt, he pointed to the monsters, shook his head and pointed to his eyes. They seemed to understand and what looked like a few moments of contemplation nodded their heads in agreement.

"Do you think they can hear us?" Matt asked. One of the monsters quickly looking over in their direction curiously seemed to confirm this and they all stayed still and silent for a few more minutes. Scared to move, what if they hear us trying to walk away and start running towards us? Sam worried. The zombies weren't completely motionless though, they were wondering around, at a very slow pace but still wondering around. It's only a matter of time before one of them bumps into us, Sam realized. Sam looked at Thomas who seemed to be coming to the same conclusion as he turned to Sam with a "we need to do something look". Sam nodded. He would have to do this sooner or later. He slowly started to take a step, Matt looked at him and shook his head but Sam continued anyway.

It took a few minutes but Sam had tested his theory, it seemed like they couldn't hear the footsteps if they were very quiet, they probably just assumed it was another zombie like them. Sam was now next to Jake who was behind Thomas and Matt. Sam could see tears falling down his face. Sam hadn't ever seen Jake like this, he hasn't known him as long as he's known Matt, but although Jake looked very intimidating with his tall large frame, Sam knew that he was more like a big teddy bear. He still remembered the first time Jake had come to his house and how excited he was when he saw his dog, he looked like a teenage girl cuddling a kitten, his mum had laughed. The thought of his mum made him wake up to his reality, being surrounded by blood thirsty zombies.

Sam motioned for Thomas and Matt to start moving back around the corner to the direction they came from. They started doing what Sam did and slowly started taking steps back. And good thing too because some of the zombies were beginning to get too close for comfort. Jake however wasn't moving he was just looking at the ground. Sam took his hand and after a few gentle tugs he started to walk backwards as well.
