Shane
I woke up to a dark room. There is no one with me, but it feels like someone is watching me. I turn in a circle, looking for a way out, but it's too dark to see anything.
"Hello? Can someone help me? Tell me where I am, at least," I call out, hoping for an answer. Of course, nothing. I walk forward, hoping to hit a wall or something. After a few moments, I bang my head on something solid. Thank God. I feel around for a light switch or a doorknob. When I find nothing, I walk around the edge of the room. Still nothing.
I lay down, catching my breath. My asthma gets extremely bad when I'm in closed spaces or I get stressed out. I try to do the breathing exercises my doctor taught me, but it doesn't seem to be having an effect on me. After a few moments, I finally get calmed down. I look around one more time hoping to find something I missed. On the ceiling, I could just make out a faint outline. Maybe it's my way out. I get up and walk around trying to find a way to get up there. But of course, there's nothing. I sit back down and can feel the tears starting to fall. I cried for about an hour before I finally collect myself and get myself together.
A screeching noise above me makes me flinch. I look up and find a shadow in a little box of light. After a minute, the shadow moves as if getting up, but instead throws a rope down. I stare at the shadow wondering if they are my hero, or my captor. After a moment they move away and I am left with a little light and a dangling rope. I get up and do the thing that could possibly get me out of here, or get me into deeper trouble. I climb.
