Shane

When I woke up, all I could think about was how I ended up in this mess. My friend, Cassidy, and I decided to skip school that day, however long ago that was. We dressed up in our best clothes. Me in a simple, short dark purple party dress and some black ankle boots. Cassidy in a black pencil skirt and lacy white top with some simple heels. We were pretending to be adults so we would be able to get into my uncle's country club out in  the next town over.

When we got there, they let us in after we showed them the fake IDs Cass's boyfriend made us. He made them when we wanted to get into a bar a few weeks earlier for my seventeenth birthday. We just walked around, not really doing anything. After about half an hour of just walking and talking, this cute guy walked up to us. He looked maybe 25 and said his name was Jerome. Jerome had shaggy brown hair and looked very muscular in his tight fitting polo.

We talked for maybe an hour when I started to have an asthma attack. Jerome and Cass looked at me for a moment before coming to my side. I pushed them away, heading for the bathroom. Once I got there, I opened up my purse and got my inhaler out. I took a few puffs and sat down on the ground. After a few minutes I got up and checked myself out in the mirror. My makeup was still perfectly applied, but there was another story for my hair. I took out a comb and brushed through my thick, black hair as best as I could. It was still a mess, so I put it into a braid that went up to my shoulders. I double-checked to make sure I looked amazing, then I walked back out.

I walked around a little while trying to look for Cass, but I couldn't find her. I got my phone out of purse so that I could call her when someone bumped into me. I turned around and found Jerome standing there.

"Hey Shane. Cass got kicked out for trying to steal some of the food and she told me to tell you that she'll wait for you at the tree house. I could take you there if you want, she told me where it is," he offered. I took it, not knowing how stupid of a decision that was. Talking to someone for only an hour after meeting them does not automatically make them your friend, no matter how cute they are.

We left, and I noticed too late that we were headed in the wrong direction.

Now, I look down at my little dress and boots, remembering that day. If only Cass and I didn't skip school. If only I didn't have gone into the bathroom. If only I wasn't so stupid as to get into a car with a stranger.
