Unknown Perspective
I continued to walk down the trail in forest at night with the moon being my only source of light. But that didn't matter, I could see perfectly well in the dark. The only thing that worried me was my family. I haven't seen them at all tonight and I'm starting to believe that they may have wandered into another part of the forest. Oddly enough, I don't even remember how I lost them in the first place. They just disappeared and here I am in the forest at midnight looking for them.
I stopped dead in my tracks as I realized something was wrong. The forest was completely silent. There wasn't even the sound of forest mice scampering across the ground.
The silence was broken as I heard wolves howling far off in the distance. I felt relieved. My family was all right. They sounded like they were only a couple miles away. 'I could go for a quick dash through the forest in my animal form,' I thought as I shifted into a wolf and ran to where the noise was coming from.
As I ran through the forest, the worried feeling I had before came back. Something wasn't right I thought as I ran faster hoping everything was all right with the wolves. As I ran past the old meadows where the wolves had first found me, I was hit with nostalgia as I remembered this was where I had lost my real birth parents when I was younger. I turned to carefully scan the meadows for any sign of the wolves, when suddenly heard a yelp coming from within the meadows. 'Something isn't right here' I thought as I walked into the meadows searching for whatever made the noise.
I suddenly spotted a large building standing at the other side of the fields. That wasn't there before I thought as I ran over there to inspect the building. That horrible gut feeling came back again when I realized whatever animal made that noise was coming from inside there as I heard another yelp followed by whining coming from inside of the building.
I transformed back into a human and walked inside only to find several dark creepy looking hallways that seemed to go on forever in darkness. I heard the noise again but this time it sounded different. It almost sounded too human like, like a baby crying. I cautiously walked down the one of hallways following where the noise came from.
After what seemed like the longest minutes ever, I finally saw some light at the end of the hallway as I started to run faster. I tumbled out of the hallway and into this room with mirrors all over the walls. There laid on the ground, was a human baby whining.
'What the hell? How would a baby be able to make such an odd noise, especially a human?' I thought as I hesitated before finally picking it up. I was always cautious around humans, especially the hunters that go after the animals in the forest. It had big silver eyes that looked right through me. It looked so innocent I thought as I cradled it in my arms. I almost dropped the baby as it suddenly started crying for no reason. It turned into a little black wolf as it leaped out of arms and tumbled onto the ground.
I was alarmed when she turned around and started growling at me. "Hey it's okay" I spoke softly trying to calm her down. I tried to channel my powers to understand what she was trying to tell me but they weren't working for some reason. Thats when that horrible gut feeling came back, and I realized she wasn't growling at me. She was growling at whatever was behind me...
I quickly turned around only to find nothing there. I sighed with relief as I turned back only to find a dark hooded figure holding the baby wolf in a head lock. She was whimpering as she struggled to get out of his grip. "Stop! You're hurting her!" I yelled. He replied with a wide grin as he finally let her go and threw her on the ground as she stumbled and ran to hide behind me.
"Who the hell do you think you are? Hurting poor innocent...animals." I said hesitantly glancing back at the little wolf who was still behind me. 'How was she able to shapeshift into an animal? Is she just like me?' I thought as I remembered the man was still there. I turned back to face the eldritch man who stood before me. What caught my eye were his eyes, they were silver just like mine except they were dull as if they had long lost their color.
