"Hey Mark, wanna come over to my house?" Jackson asked his best friend, Mark.
"Sure, I need to put my stuff up first though," Mark replied.
"Okay I'll wait for you." Jackson patiently waited as Mark put his stuff in his backpack.
When Mark put everything in his backpack he and Jackson walked together out of the school. Jackson's house was two streets down from the school, so they got there quickly. When they arrived at Jackson's house they greeted his parents and went down the hallway into his bedroom. They threw their backpacks on the floor, and began to complain about how their math teacher always gave them too much homework, even on weekends.
Halfway through their conversation, Jackson's phone rang. It was their friend Kunpimook, better known as BamBam, who used to go to the same school as Jackson and Mark but moved last year to another school because his mom thought that school was "better for his education."
More like, she thought they were being bad influences on her dear son. But whatever.
Jackson talked with BamBam on the phone for a while before the younger had to leave because he had chores to do. Mark asked Jackson if he could go and get some Takis and water, and he nodded. Mark was in the kitchen, reaching for a bottle of water when the wind began to howl and the ground began to shake. He quickly grabbed two bottles of water, completely forgetting about the chips, and ran to Jackson's room.
When he arrived he found Jackson already under the bed and typing furiously on his phone. Mark shoved the water and their backpacks underneath the bed before doing the same. They stayed under the bed for what seemed like an eternity. (Actually it was like 4 hours) Barely daring to breathe, much less move. Every time a crash was heard the two held tighter to each other.
The last text sent before the power lines broke was by Jackson. It was to BamBam that read: "Come save Mark and I we r at my home. Thx ilysm."
As Jackson and Mark sat there in the darkness they would never had thought that light would not come again for days and they would have to depend on the people and animals around them for survival.
