He filched as his fist rose harshly in the air. Joe closes his eyes hoping he would go away instead feeling a massive impact to the centre of his stomach. He kneels over holding his stomach in pain not daring to open his eyes seeing the anger on his so called fathers face. The sad thing is Joe doesn't know any different. Joe lays there while his father abuses him over and over again, it's all he can do, get used to this life.
Joe opens his eyes quickly and sits up glances at his mom before laying back down. This happens often for Joe, having to be forced awake because he's screaming while having dreams about his past. Joe leans over hugging his mother as she embraces him back just wanting her son to be better again.
"Come on let's get you some breakfast." Denise says pulling away from her son, Joe nods and wipes his eyes of the tears before climbing out of bed and following his mom down the stairs. He sits on the stool in the island and begins watching his mom make some pancakes. All Joe wants is to live a normal life, be able to be independent but there's no point living alone, he wouldn't be able to do it. Joe lives with his parents, his dad being away most of the time with work but does help his mom out with waking up his son when he's screaming in his sleep if he can. Joe also lives with one of his young brothers, Frankie who is the only one of his brothers who truly knows what happens during nights. It's like he has a baby brother or sister waking up and screaming to be fed or changed but Joe as a 23 year old is way past that stage.
"You looking forward to new work?" Denise asks pouring the pancake batter into the heated pan. Joe swallows the sip of coffee he just drank nodding his head.
"I am actually, it would be nice to get out," He admits knowing he's been struggling to find a teaching job for a while, it's all he's ever wanted to be and won't stop until he gets there. "I'm still nervous though." He admits again.
"You'll do fine Joseph."
"Please don't call me that." He complains making his mother chuckle. Joe soon gets his breakfast and eats it along with his mother. Joe helps clean up the dishes before running upstairs strolling into the bathroom for a well needed shower. He stands there in the water letting the beads of water penetrate his skin, he quite often just stands in the shower hoping it will wash way his problems but he knows it won't. Joe pounces down the stairs scuffing up his 12 year old brother's hair, Frankie groans straightening his hair out for the 2nd time today.
"Joseph would you like me to do that to you?" Denise lectures making Joe place his hands on his hair creasing his curls in a protective way. "I didn't think so." Frankie sticks his tongue at his older brother Joe mimics him making their mother shake her head.
"Get to work," Denise demands passing Joe's keys. "What time do you think you'll be back?" Denise asks wanting to know what time to cook dinner for.
"I have no idea, not too late though." He states.
"If I do dinner for 6 will that be okay?" She asks and Joe nods pecking his mother's cheek. Joe says his goodbyes then leaves climbing into his car where he sets off into a familiar route, the school he used to attend. Joe always hated school, he wants to teach there just for the reason he wants to make it better for the students attending there now.
