"Val???"

Instantly recognising the voice, she turned around, with a visible shock on her face.

She choked out, "Nate!"

Natalie was Val's friend since kindergarten and were friend-sisters. For 16 years they grew up together until Val decided to leave everything behind.

Nate hugged Valerie and said "Val!! Its been ages! Where have you been and what have you done to yourself?"

"Hey Nate." Val smiled," I've missed you too."

They broke the hug and Val saw tears glistening in Nate's eyes.

"Where have you been Val? You cannot run away forever"

"I am at a college in Clevesford". She lied.

"You kept us wondering on what happened to you. I'm glad you've moved on."

"haha i'm glad too. Why are you so worn out?"

"Oh was at a party and you know, the drinks and the dancing at Shane's".

Val flinched at the name and frowned. Nate noticed the change and said,"He misses you Val"

"Misses me? oh you know you cannot feed me with that anymore"

"Shane misses you. He got drunk on his birthday and cried his heart out. He still loves you Val. you should give him another chance."

"Nate we've done this before and you know its not true. He cannot change."

"He has. Give him another chance."

"I will think about it."

They chatted for some more time, gossiping about the other friends and Nate filling in on what happened during Val's absence until it was time for Nate to get off. They exchanged numbers, although Val wasn't quite comfortable with it.

"I will give you a call Vals."

"Nate... just don't tell anybody you met me."

"I know Valerie. I won't tell a soul." And she meant it. She had to keep this a secret.

"Thanks a ton Nate. I trust you."

"i gotta run now."

They hugged and Nate got off, leaving Val to struggle with the topic Nate had gotten into her mind, Shane.

She closed her eyes and travelled to her childhood.

*flashback

"Don't be such a girl Val!"

"I AM a girl, jerk!'

"You could pass for a boy and nobody would even figure"

"Shane, thats a rude thing to say"

"I know. Why would i be nice to you?"

*present

No. She wouldn't cry over him. She would never cry for her love. For the one who broke her heart.

Getting off the train, she felt the chillness of the wind. Hurriedly she left the terminus , heading for a cab.

"26, Breach avenue"

Her destination was quite a few miles away, leaving Valerie enough time to assess what happened in the train.
