"I just wanna make you smile." -Pnb Rock

Ryan P.O.V

"BRRRR-BRRRRR-BRRR-

I'm awoken to hear vibrating and my alarm clock playing. I get out of bed and sigh. "Another day, another dollar." I mumble under my breath.

I walk into the bathroom inside of the orphanage that I live in. I am fifteen years old, I'm never going to be adopted. All I wonder is why my mother abandoned me. Was she not ready for kids or just didn't care to want me.

I turn on the shower and strip out of my clothing and get inside. The cold water beads hit my body. Inside of the orphanage we have no warm water, so everyone takes showers with cold water. I take a Pink Dove Soap Bar that I bought with my lunch money out of the box. I put soap on my washcloth and then wash my body. I let the water touch my hair and then it just curls up.

About 15 minutes later, I step out of the shower and open the Arm and Hammer deodorant that I bought along with the soap bar from the local 99 cents store. I apply deodorant to my underarms and close it back up.

I put on my raggedy clothing that consisted of Sweatpants and a plain tee shirt and an old dirty pair of black converse. I brush my teeth and then put my hair in a neat ponytail. At least something in my life is going right.

I walk out of the bathroom with a big grin on my face, grateful to be alive and healthy. I grab my backpack and then go down to the kitchen and grab a Nature Valley granola bar.

I walk out of the door and look down the street. There's mental people and drug addicts standing on the corner near the school bus stop. I walk to the school bus stop and wait patiently for the bus.

When the bus arrives I step on and smile at the bus driver. I look around and see everyone with disgusted looks on their faces.

"Why does she have to ride the bus? She should've walked." I hear someone mumble. I ignore it and open my book reading the page I left off on.

"She's so ugly." I hear someone else mumble. I push my glasses up on my nose and continue reading.

Suddenly a piece of paper smacks me in my face and I sigh. The bus driver pulls over and gets out of his seat. "What is wrong with you guys?!" He yells at the fellow teenagers. "She's ugly." A girl says. "She's still human! She has feelings like all the rest of you guys. Learn something from her." The bus driver yells once again returning to his seat.

I continue reading my book and then the bus comes to a halt, I look up and we're at school. I grab my backpack and quietly walk off the bus. I'm walking when I hear someone scream "Ryan!" I turn around and notice that it's the bus driver calling me.

I walk back to him and say "Yes Mr. Mosley?" He sighs and says "I'm sorry about you being bullied, I can walk you to the office if you want to report it." I shake my head and say "No thank you, I'm okay. I gotta go to class." I say waving and walking away.

I walk inside of the school and then walk quickly towards my class. I can feel my ponytail swinging behind me, and I just continue walking.
-
"Everyone failed their tests! What were you guys doing when I was teaching. Only one person passed, out of all thirty of you guys!" Our teacher yelled at us.

"Who's that person that passed?" One of my classmates Taylor asked."

"Ryan. She passed with a perfect score. Come up here Ryan." He says. I shyly get up from my desk and slowly walk to his desk. I grab my test and then walk back to my seat stiffly. I turn my head and see Brittany the popular girl mugging me.

I turn my head and see this one pretty girl Nova smiling at me pretty big. I smile back and sit down.

After the bell rings I walk out of my class and then Nova walks up to me and says "Congratulations." I say "Thank you." I turn to walk away and I hear her say "Wait, Ryan do you have anyone to hang out with?" I shake my head and say "No but it's okay."

She drops her jaw and says "No come eat with me." I give her a unsure look and ask "Are you sure?"

"Certain." She says pulling my wrist in the direction of the cafeteria.
-
"This doesn't look so good." I say grabbing the tray. She laughs and says "I know right, let's get Pizza Hut."

"U-u-umm, I don't have any money." I say softly. "It's quite fine, I'll buy you a personal pan pizza like mine." She says opening her wallet.

She pulls out a 10 dollar bill and pays for both of our pizzas. We sit down in a cornered booth, isolated from the rest of the cafeteria.

"So tell me about yourself." Nova says. "There isn't much about me, I'm poor. I can't live like the rest of you guys." I say softly. "That doesn't make me, or anyone else Better than you, remember that." Nova interjects

I silently eat my pizza listening to her ramble about me being a good person.

A few minutes later, the bell rings and I get up and toss my box in the trash. I walk to my final class and then sit in the front of the classroom.

3 Months Later

"I'm never gonna get adopted." I say crying to Ms. Angeline, the lady who runs the orphanage. "Ryan Listen." She says calmly. "What's the point? No one cares about me!" I yell.

"You got adopted okay! Go pack your bags!" She yells back. My face gets bright and I run to pack my suitcase. I pack all of my stuff and then close it.

I walk downstairs and see Nova with her family smiling big. "Hey Nova, what're you doing here?" I ask hugging her. "My family is adopting you!" She says laughing. My face brightens and I laugh and hug her.

My best friend is now my sister. 💋
