Chapter 2
Four-year-old Sakura was humming a soft tune in the shower. She was fumbling with her lavender scented soap, while her strawberry scented shampoo container was back in its rightful place.
She was very excited to play with her best friend, Deidara. And due to that excitement, her clumsiness finally won against her as her soap slips from her grasp and lands in the toilet.
"Opps."
The night before was Halloween, and Deidara invited her to come over the day after due to Sakura not being able to attend trick-or-treating. It was way past her bedtime by the time the trick-or-treating would have ended. She was a bit worried that Deidara might have been trick-or-treating alone, but she overheard her mother talking on the phone with Deidara's mother about another little boy Deidara took a fancy to; this fact put Sakura's worries to rest.
"Sakura!" Sakura heard her mother yell. Sakura really loved her mother; she was nice, pretty, and a great cook! And Sakura loves food!
The child could tell that whatever her mother wanted might be important. She instantly took the soap out of the toilet and rinsed it—ew—, placed it back where it came from, and ran out of the shower soaked to the bone and wearing nothing but a pink fluffy towel.
"Yes?" Sakura saw her mother wearing her green apron with the words 'Best Chef!' imbedded on it. She was baking some cookies, chocolate chip cookies to be precise. Sakura's mother looked exactly like Sakura expect for her skin color, which was slightly darker. Sakura got her emerald green eyes and pink hair from her, and her pale complexion from her father, who she has never met. Pink hair was a rare trait in the Haruno family, her mother being the only one in her generation to have one, and it seems as though Sakura will be the only one in her generation to have pink hair too.
"Deidara's mother just called, she said that Deidara ate all of his Halloween candy last night, literally all of it, and now has the bad case of the stomachache." Sakura's mother said, pointing at her phone for emphasis.
"Oh..." Sakura frowned. She was really looking forward to hangout with Deidara today, they were suppose to play video games, eat, watch movies, eat, play board games, eat, bake some pastries, and finally eat the pastries; they both love eating.
Sakura was about to leave and continue her shower until—, "You didn't let me finish... Deidara's mom suddenly had an important meeting today and couldn't watch over Deidara." Sakura face instantly lit up, "Do you want to watch over him instead?" Her mother asked.
"Of course!" The four-year-old said, jumping in joy; "I'll just get changed!" The bubbly child was about to leave to continue her bath.
"Wait! Sakura." The little girl stopped halfway.
"Hm?"
"Don't forgot to take this batch of cookies I made, okay? Don't give Deidara too much, it might worsen his stomachache." Sakura's mother placed the tray of cookies on their table to cool off.
"Ok mommy!" With that the little pinkette bolted away, leaving a trail of water at her wake.
"Sakura? Sakura. Wake up." Sakura felt someone mildly shake her left shoulder. She felt a quick pain on her chest from the nostalgia. She just had one of her most sentimental memories with her mother, memories that can never be relived, memories that would only be a constant reminder of what the past has that the future can never have, memories that can never be replaced by newer and happier memories because life does not work that way, because not everyone gets what they want.
