I wish I was young again
Back before I liked boys and the only people I loved were my family and my dog
Back before I knew the kind of love that can shatter your heart
I wish I could go back to when my feelings consisted of wanting my mom constantly by my side and wanting her to sing to me
I wish that when I was 7 and someone said "it's gone by all too fast" I would've known that at 17 I would be wishing I cherished what time I did have, being young and carefree
Being carefree stopped a lot sooner than I thought it would, it disappeared one Tuesday night while I was sleeping alone in the guest bedroom because I had lost the one person who let me just be a kid.
Being a "kid" only lasted until the sheets were no longer soaked with urine but were now soaked with tears cried over things that a "kid" wouldn't have to cry about
Having things to cry about, that aren't toys or boo-boos, become a fear that yes, indeed, I am more than a kid
Because a "kid " doesn't see that people can hurt them, a "kid "sees someone to play with and when you get older those people you play with only play with your feelings
And your feelings are what grow with you when you outgrown that car seat, and that baby blanket
That baby blanket was once a symbol of your innocence and as you grow up you threw it in your closet and didn't care about it anymore and it was hidden, but not enough that someone couldn't waltz in and grab it from the pile of old clothes because, hey, you didn't need it anymore, right?
You aren't a kid
You're just a teenager, you don't care about innocence
Your innocence was taken by the politicians and "the man "
You stopped being able to keep it when 13 year olds were being sexualized.
They say at 13 you "are just a kid" but if you act like one you "need to grow up"
As a kid if you want to grow up as you've grown up you wish you hadn't
