The moon shown heavily over the lake. The water rippled with each pawstep. A cat was walking on the pebbles a mouse-length under the river.

By the time he saw the other side of the river, the water was sucking down his belly fur. A few steps forward and he had to swim to the other side.

Before he reached the grass, he could find his paw-steps again. He padded a few moments to the forest, then waited beside a shadowy tree.

A few moments, he heard paw-steps behind his tree. Before he turned around, hostile voice came.

"What are you doing here?" A she-cat hissed. "Don't think I don't see you!"

The tom, who was experienced, turned to her. "I won't hurt you," he meowed calmly, meeting her angry, amber gaze.

"I'm not afraid that you'll hurt me!" She snarled defiantly. "I want to know what you're doing here." She narrowed her eyes suspiciously.

"I am here to see Sandy," he told her. "I love her."

She paused, her eyes burning with hurt and betrayal. Then, she quickly recovered and the anger flared back in her eyes. "Fine. But if she goes to that stupid place again, she isn't welcome here."

"I'll see what she wants to do," The tom meowed coldly. He padded confidently over to her.

"Wait," the she-cat meowed, the sadness returning in her gaze. "You love Sandy. But she's my best friend."

"So?" The tom kneaded his paws impatiently.

"She lives with me. And if y-you take her away, all I have is Olivia," she meowed, her eyes becoming slits in sadness.

"Why should I care? You don't even like Sandy because she and I are mates!" The tom snapped.

"Stop interrupting me, Jay! I do like Sandy! She and I are best friends. I just don't know why she would take you when... Nothing. But if Sandy is mates with you, then she can no longer stay," the she-cat decided.

"If you become upset with Sandy's decision, blame it on yourself," Jay answered rudely. "I'll go get her."

"Let me come with you," the she-cat begged.

"Lilly," Jay sighed. "Fine. But don't bother Sandy or I. And remember, I love her, not you."

"But you did!" Lilly growled. "You loved me. I wish Lavender was still here." She sighed and started walking up the trail where they ended up at Lilly and Sandy's den.

"Sandy!" Lilly called, not waiting for Jay to. She glared at Sandy's den for a few moments, then decided she wasn't in there, even though, inside, she knew Sandy was ignoring her.

"Sandy! It's me!" Jay meowed loudly.

Lilly covered up her disbelief with an indifferent expression. She caught herself from wincing when Sandy rushed to Jay and meowed excitedly.

Sandy licked Jay's ear. "Jay! I thought you'd never comeback, what with everything that's happening!" She ignored Lilly's existence, and Lilly left them to giggle until she couldn't hold herself back from shouting.

"Sandy!" She growled.

At first, Sandy ignored her. Then, she sighed under Lilly's glare and asked, "What?" She put up an annoyed posture. She was probably disgusted with Lilly's existence in the forest.

"Listen. You have to choose. If you want to be mates with Jay, you have to go to him, but you won't be welcome here again. He won't be welcome here if you stay," Lilly explained, inwardly hoping she'd stay.

"What? That- Jay? Did you decide this?" Sandy asked.

Lilly glared at Jay, angry that Sandy only cared about him. She only wanted her to stay to show that she wasn't a worthless she-cat that deserved nothing.

"No. It was all Lilly." He spat the name.

Lilly thought she was broken inside. If Sandy stayed, she wouldn't be mates with Jay. Either way, it was impossible. Why must Sandy do this to her?

"Then, I'm leaving!" Sandy suddenly spat, rounding on Lilly with bristling fur. "You don't like me! You're just jealous that Jay and I are meant to be! We're going to have kits! We love each other. Jay loves me, not you."

Even Jay winced at the harsh words.

"What have I said?" Lilly asked, her paws trembling, though a mocking laughter shook her as well. "You know what, it doesn't matter, because none of you listen! You just decide that you're better than me for no reason!"

Sandy suddenly drew back and glanced at Jay for support. He was just as shocked, but recovered first.

"Stop fighting, you two!" He growled.

"Jay, tell me you love me! More than her," Sandy pleaded, gazing at him with confident eyes. She knew he would pick over, though Lilly had no idea why.

Meanwhile, she silently hoped this would end. "Sandy, shut up. If you're going to leave, then both of you go on. I'll go tell Olivia."

Jay's eyes flashed sadly. "I'm sorry I let Lavender drown! I should've saved her..." This deeply upset Sandy, who glared at Lilly.

"You chose to save Sandy instead," Lilly meowed simply. "Now, go. I don't want to see you ever again."
