Wow. He did not throw me out already. That's something right? Maybe I still have a chance. Or maybe he didn't recognise me. Or maybe he just wants to humiliate me and then throw me out. I wouldn't be surprised though, that's how business men tend to be- rude, cold and unfeeling. I can tell you that by experience.
But the thing is I am stubborn and have a huge ego. Afterall that's what I had been brought up to be. So I simply take the seat in front of his desk. I sit with my back straight, head held high and make direct eye contact with him. I may not be a social person but I do observe people. And I have learnt that the best way to confront an intimidating person is by showing as if you aren't afraid of him. And to be honest, I am not. I have literally nothing to lose. Worse come to worse, I will have to deal with Sam and his wandering hands. Maybe I could take my classmates up on their offer and tutor them. Huh, so many options. But for now I am going to deal with this interesting man, whose sharp blue eyes that seem to peirce me. I feel so vulnerable in front of him. No wonder he is this successful.
"So Ms Monroe, i see that your grades are quite good and that you are quite involved in the extra curricular activities of your college. Tell me why have you applied for the job of my part time secretary when you could have taken up an internship in some other department seeing that you are majoring in business?". His voice is so enchanting that i almost forget that i am supposed to answer.
Shit Elena concentrate! Stop staring and start talking. Now!
" Had I applied to any other department I would have been able to explore and gain experience in only one field of work. Working under you will give me a lot more exposure. I will get to observe and learn the trick of all the trades.", I reply honestly.
This is what I had been working towards my entire life. Sure my life had turned upside down but this is the dream I had held onto. And if this becomes reality then everything will be worth it.
" Well, working for me will not be easy. I am a very difficult boss, as I am sure you have heard from others. I require someone who is willing to be completely dedicated to this job. Part time for the time being but perhaps full time too at times."
"You see, Matilda has worked with me almost since I started this company and even before that she worked with my father. Unfortunately, she has done her time and now wants to spend some time with her family. She deserves it too. But what I am trying to say here is that you will have very big shoes to fill in. Do you think that's a challenge that you are willing to accept?"
I almost felt like laughing at his face. Challenge? This is exactly the kind of work I was looking for. Something that would challenge me and also something that would occupy my mind and keep me from thinking about stuff that I need to clearly leave in the past.
"Of course I am. When I applied for the job, Matilda had briefed me about what it would entail. I would gladly accept this job if you were to offer it to me.", I say.He looks at me like he is confused, almost curious. Well, at least he is intrigued. That's better than pissed any time.
" Well then, Miss Elena, I am glad to inform you that I am giving you this opportunity. Better don't make me regret my decision."
"Matilda will contact you and give you the rest of the details of the job. You are still attending college, so I will ask her to adjust your work schedule accordingly." And with that he turns back to his Mac, without a second glance at me. Just like that, as if he did not just give me the best news I have heard in forever.I simply gape at him. That's it? That's how easily he is letting me go? No rude comments about my unprofessional look? No questions about my lack of personal history? And it almost seems like he has forgotten about the incident in the morning or at least is ignoring it. Not that I am complaining. Seems like luck is in my favour today, afterall.
"You may now stop staring at me and leave.", he says without even looking up. Now that's more like him. Or at least what I think is him. Ugh I am so confused now. Is he actually rude or does he just pretend to be? Well I guess time will tell.
I gather my senses and rise from the seat. Just as I reach the door and turn around to thank him, I catch him already looking at me.
"By the way Miss Elena, I like my coffee in my cup rather than on my clothes. Remember that for future reference." And with that he beats me to the punch, leaving me shocked. Again.

Hey lovelies,
Its me Ana again. So sorry for the very long hiatus that I took. It wasn't intentional. This year was very crucial for me, academic wise and I had to concentrate. It sucked all the creativity out of me. So for the lack of time and content I had to take a break. But now my final exams are done and I am freeee for the next few months. So hopefully I can write and update frequently.
Anyhoo, don't forget- Be kind. Be awesome. Be you. ❤️
