Listen to Let The Games Begin by AJR while reading *floats away*

If you've never been woken up by a six foot four, foot-ball-playing, literal golden child, I automatically envy you. I also hope and pray that you never experience the horror and pain that comes with it; but that is how my brother Alec woke me up on the first day of my junior year of high school.

"HEADS UP!" A voice screeched into my ear at 5:30 AM in the morning.

"Five more minutes," I mumbled into my pillow half asleep. The sleep gods were not on my side as a sharp pain in my stomach followed by a crushing weight on top of woke me up faster than a teacher placing a failed quiz on a sleepy student's desk. I shot open my eyes to the face of none other than my brother Alec.

I did the obvious thing; I screamed so loud the entire county heard me. It's a miracle my head didn't hit the ceiling when I jumped. I sat frozen, upright in my spot shaking with fear and shock. Alec laughed as he got off the bed.

"You ok there, buddy?" he chuckled.

"Yes," I nodded still frozen and shaking," I'm going to go...tell me if the sheets are wet at breakfast please." This only made Alec laugh even harder.

"What scared me the most was your face!" I said as I walked out of the room.

I walked down to the kitched to see Alec already wolfing down his breakfast. His blond hair a mess and his varsity jacket thrown on the floor like it was ready to be traced for a murder scene. I took a seat next to him at the table.

We are nothing alike. Alec is huge at over six feet and a muscly build. He has hair the color of a polished Olympic gold medal and eyes the shade of the purest essence of a Smurf's soul. He is a total jock with more friends than we have relatives and colleges watching him as intensly as I watch Netflix. I, on the other hand, stood at five feet and two inches, and I'm pretty skinny. I have dark brown hair with skin the color of hot chocolate and eyes so pale they're practically gray.

I looked down at the bowl placed in front of me; drowning oatmeal with a mountain of cinnamon. The food looked so miserable I didn't want to eat it.

"I wanted to make pancakes, but I nearly burned down the house trying," my mother said with a laugh, tucking her curly black hair behind her ear.

My mother was the type of person who was great at a lot of things, but at the things she was bad at weren't pretty. Except for the curly brown hair, she and Alec looked more like siblings than mother and son.

Alec nodded, literally inhaling his food, "It's good." I stabbed the oatmeal with my fork. As I pulled it out my mouth dropped to see the fork prongs bent forward.

"I'll get breakfast at school, besides we're going to be late," I said walking around the counter to kiss my mother on the cheek. I grabbed my backpack and walked toward the door, Alec following me. "Bye mom!" I shouted.

"Bye, take care of each other!" My mom shouted, then as a second thought she added, "sorry about trying to kill you with my cooking, Tanya!" I chuckled my mom sounded too casual about almost killing her child with inedible food. I remembered once were we got into a car crash and she just said "oh well" and gave us a pat on the back when we saw the damage.

The autumn breeze blew gently swirling the leaves into interesting patterns. The sun shone brightly and the sky was a gorgeous blue and the clouds were light and fluffy like pillows. It was a gorgeous day to be walking into the gates of the underworld. No kidding.

The school looked like a prison against the scenery, all gray and miserable. We walked towards tall, intimidating wrought iron gates that looked like they have been made from the screams, fears, and despairs of the innocent. Two extremely scary, extremely buff looking security guards stood at either side of the gates, they glared at the students as if they were gum on their shoes.

I shivered despite myself as we passed them.

Alec left to go talk to some friends at the school entrance. By some friends I mean half of this town. I'm more of a loner and I don't have any friends.

I kept on walking, as I did I passed by a teacher. "Hello," she said.

I got flustered, my hands started shaking and got all clammy. I felt heat rise to my cheeks and sweat break out all over me. I quickly averted my eyes and walked away quickly.

By the way, I'm so shy that I have near panic attacks when someone talks to me.
