Scott climbed into the passenger seat of Louis' red pickup truck. It seemed oddly cliché for a man like Louis to own such a vehicle, but it suited him.
"What are you doing here? Your car is right over there!" Louis raised his eyebrows as Scott buckled himself in.
"Well when you punched me in the face, I vaguely remember you handing the boy we're looking for my keys, and then saying 'don't let this man chase you'. Do you remember that?" Scott looked at Louis, and raised his invisible eyebrows in return.
"So, where are we going?" Louis turned away sheepishly and pulled out of the 7/11.
"You tell me. You saw him run away, remember?" Scott rolled his eyes. He was still mad at Louis for dumping that sticky slushy in his hair.
"I think I saw him headed down that way." Louis turned and drove faster down the road.
They had been driving so far down the road that Scott temporarily gave up hope. That is, until he saw the next road sign.
"PULL OVER." Scott didn't even wait for the car to slow down, he unbuckled (probably not the best idea), and swung open the door.
"DUDE WE'RE ON THE ROAD." Louis finally slowed to a roll and Scott leapt out of his seat and ran to the speed limit sign. Scott stared at the sign until he heard Louis get out of the truck.
"Okay I can let a lot of stuff go but you just jumped out of a moving–"
"Lou, look," Scott interrupted. There was a large brown envelope taped to the sign. The letters SPA were written in black sharpie on the front.
"Do you think..." Louis trailed off.
"Only one way to find out." Scott pulled the envelope down with surprising difficulty and opened it up. Inside was a single cue card. Scott turned over the envelope, and held the card. "Finding Dory," Scott read out loud. He flipped the card. "Now find me." Scott was utterly confused.
"What does that mean," Lou contributed.
"Mitch likes Disney movies," Scott recalled. That explained the front of the card but only the surface of it. "There has to be a deeper meaning." Louis raised his hand. Scott looked over and furrowed his lower forehead. "Yes?"
"I feel like you're having an inner epiphany without me. Care to explain?"
"Finding Dory is written one side of this card. I think this is because Mitch– the boy we're finding– knows that I know that he likes Disney movies. This may also have a deeper meaning. I'm still figuring that out. On the back of the card are the words 'Now find me'. I think this is just him teasing me, but it may also be hiding an inner meaning." Scott explained, almost out of breath at the end.
"Great. I'll just start the engine. You can tell me where to go from there." Louis walked backwards toward the truck.
"I think he might be implying something with the 'Finding Dory' part," Scott theorized. "Is there something you think of when I say Finding Dory?"
"That fish sanctuary. HE'S IN CALIFORNIA." Louis shouted giddily.
"Keep driving," Scott rolled his eyes.
