A new start, or so she thought

I shake that feeling off when I get to Tyler's school. I go to his classroom where his teacher said they would be and sure enough he was there coloring and talking to other kids in there. I stand there and observe for a little bit before calling him over so we can go home.

After he gathers up his things we start to walk home.

Once we get home I notice my fathers car in the drive way. I tell Tyler to get behind me and he does.

We walk into the house and my father is sitting on the couch with a knife in his hands, I walk Tyler to the stairs and tell him to go hide in our secret spot and wait for me to knock with our secret knock.

"Why are you late Nevaeh?" He said in a venomous tone while getting up off the couch walking over to me.

"I was picking Tyler up from school."

He took another step closer while I took one step back.

"I'm tired of you back talking me bitch." He slaps me across the face.

I hold in my tears and take the beaten I'm about to endure.

He raises his hand to hit me again but stops once we hear the front door burst open. I was shocked at who stood there.. It was Miguel.

How did he find me.. It's not possible..

My father has fear laced across his face and backs away from me while Miguel walks towards us.

"Don't you ever dare hit her ever again. I'm taking her and Tyler out of here you pathetic piece of shit" he basically growls. "Go get Tyler, Nevaeh."

I run up to my room where the secret hiding spot is and do our knock and get a big backpack for me and Tyler and pack stuff we are going to need and grab our school bags as well.

We get downstairs and see Miguel and Tyler runs up to him and gives him a hug. "I missed you Miguel"

"I missed you too buddy, now let's get out of here"
