Ireland woke up to a cold chill running up her back, she fluttered her eyes open and stretched. She stood from her spot and unzipped her tent before looking out at the expanse of the city she had spent the night in. She pulled on her oversized coat and tucked her long and wild red hair into a beanie, as she stepped out of her tent.
"Detroit." She sighed, "I have yet to grace these walls with my presence." she muttered to herself.
She began to slowly gather her things up and put her tent away, her small body shivered as she felt a gust of wind go up her back. The cold weather too much on her, she finished up gathering her things and walked away from the alleyway.
She shoved her hand in her pocket searching for at least a little change for a coffee or hot chocolate, she came up with nothing. She sighed and continued on her journey down the streets of the city.
She walked around for about half an hour before she came across a completely blank wall. She smiled to herself and set her bags down, grabbing a mask and setting it over her mouth and nose then grabbing a crappy old Mp3 player out of her back, plugging the earbuds into her ears. She began the music and she lost herself.
Grabbing color after color and spraying the wall in every which way, the music blaring in her ears. She got sucked in and barely heard the yelling beside her and the dark presence that came with it, she glanced to the side and saw a man dressed in a police uniform with a cloud of thick black smoke around his broad frame.
His thin lips spread into an evil smirk, Ireland glared at the man as another man the same black cloud surrounding him as well. She looked up sadly at the unfinished piece of art on the wall, then back at the two men.
She sighed and quickly grabs her bag and bolts the other way hearing the men's heavy books follow quickly behind her. She felt them right on her heels as she picked up her speed, "Stop running." one of the men grunted behind her.
"I'll stop running when you stop chasing me you overgrown bags of sulfur!" She yelled back, she turned a corner and fear gripped her as she was blocked by a brick wall. She turned around stone faced toward the two men who had mouth splitting grins as they stepped closer to her. Her back finally hit the wall and she shut her eyes tightly awaiting her fate but it never came.
Silence was all she heard, she opened her eyes and found the broad back of a man. A man holding a black stained knife gripped in his hand.
He turned to the clearly shaken girl, her small frame swallowed by the overly large coat. The girl looked nothing like her picture anymore, her cheeks sunken in, her green eyes no longer bright they were dull and lifeless.
"Are you Ireland Iris Scott?" He had asked, the girl nodded slightly. He sighed, he was glad to get this search over with. He had found two other girls matching the picture and bother were to his expectations of a teenage girl. But this one, she was different somehow.
Ireland frowned at the man in front of her, she knew exactly what he was and she didn't want him near her.
"You know," she muttered, "I don't need another one of you, I can take care of myself."
Ezekiel was baffled, he wasn't expecting that. "Do what?" Another angel? How had she had an angel before him? Who was this angel and why wasn't he or she still here?
"Another one?" he said,
"Yeah, his name was Lucus. He was around until two months after my parents and all my friends memory dropped off the face of the earth." She explained as she attempted to walk passed him,
He took a side step and blocked her ways again, "Lucus?"
"Yeah, Lucus."
He remembered working with Lucus, the blonde man who fell in love with a human and was banished from heaven. He knew that angels were forbidden to fall in love with humans. If Gabriel or Michael were to find out, hell even Arael. The angel will be banished and lose their wings, a long and painful process that soon takes your sanity.
He remembered when he was a child and his father had gone through that, first it was his feathers, then the bones of his wings deteriorated slowly, then his grace was taken which soon led to insanity.
He remembered that month of pain like it was yesterday, he was a forbidden child. Half human half angel, yet he was not known of until he was five and was taken to work at heavens gates at the age of eighteen. His mother had stuck by his father's side, he remembers feeling the love that they had had for eachother. He could see how she was the only thing that kept him sane.
His mother was young, about the age of twenty-two when she had collected the bloodied feathers that fell to the floor. She cleaned the blood from his skin and kissed each healed wound, though he was only five he could remember it clearly as if living through it again.
He also remembered the day that his mother had left him and his father, Ezekiel was only 10 when he grew to despise humans. His mother "fell in love" with a new man, she had left him and his broken father to fend for themselves. His father soon faded into nothing, a broken shell of a man that was once an angel 5 years before.
Ireland stared at the man in front of her clearly lost in thought, and she took in his features. Hi strong jaw was tight as if he was bothered by something, his broad shoulders tense, he had black curly hair that almost fell into his eyes, his green eyes landed upon her as she cleared her throat to get his attention.
She rolled her eyes him and stepped around him only for the man to turn and follow her out of the alleyway, "Can you just please go away?" She asked clearly annoyed,
Ezekiel smiled sarcastically, "I would love to! But I can't, so you're stuck with me love."Ireland glared at the man, stupid angels, she thought to herself as she continued to walk.
She stopped at a corner as she smelled the overwhelming aroma of food. Her stomach growled loudly as she frowned at the restaraunt in front of her, she dug in her bag only to find fifty cents.
"Won't even buy me a decent cup of coffee." she muttered to herself as she shoved the change into her pocket,
Ezekiel had noticed the frustration and hunger etched on Ireland's face, he shoved his hand into his pocket and brought out a twenty dollar bill.
"Here, take it." He muttered to her, Ireland turned around and stared at the money in the angels hand.
"I don't need that, I'm not that hungry." She said as her stomach betrayed her and made another noise, he sighed in frustration at the stubborn girl.
"Take it or I go in dragging you by your jacket and buy something of my choice." He growled lowly, she glared back at him and sntched the twenty from his hand stomping towards the restaurant. She quickly went and ordered her food and a cup of hot cocoa then took a seat at a two seater table.
"Well if I'm going to be stuck with you, I'm going to have to know your name. Aren't I?" She asked,
"Ezekiel." He answered back with a glare
The food arrived as she gave Ezekiel a sour look, "Geez at least Lucus was nice, what crawled up your angel ass and died?" she muttered picking up her sandwich.
"Here's a question for you, how do you remember Lucus? How do you remember angels even exist?"
"What do you mean?"
He gave her another hard glare, "Once a human loses their guardian angel they lose all memory of said angel and even that angels exist." He explains.
She shrugged as she took a huge bite of her sandwich, "I don't know, it's a mystery to me."
