"So, Doctor. This brilliant plan of yours. Care to explain it to me?" River twirls around to face the Doctor in a flurry of motion as he sits, contemplating.

"Weeeell, it's just an idea, you know-"

"Doctor." River glares at him, and under her piercing gaze, the Doctor crumbles.

"Alright! Basically, if we were to go to Manhattan, it would cause a major paradox. We both know that. But say we were to, uhh, happen to run into the Ponds outside of New York. Just by mere coincidence, you know." River nods slowly.

"So you're planning on creating this coincidental scenario?" The Doctor stands and straightens his bowtie.

"Well, I plan on setting it in motion. First, though, we need to find out where they actually live. They may not have remained in Manhattan, you know. They could have moved. So we need to do our research." He walks to his main console and fixes a screen.

"And your TARDIS will be able to tell you that?" River asks, smirking. The Doctor, however, looks back at her accusingly.

"How dare you underestimate the TARDIS! Of course she can find out where the Ponds live!" He shakes his head, but River just smiles.

He's always been partial to his TARDIS. I don't know if any companion could come before his big, blue space ship.

Except for maybe Rose Tyler. River sighs.

Despite River appearing to be so very sure of herself, she's always been a bit self-conscious when it comes to the Doctor. She's never quite been sure how he feels about her. Sure, her feelings are strong, and she loves him, but the Doctor has been in love before. He fell in love with Rose.

What if I don't measure up? What if I'm not an effective replacement?

The Doctor burned up a sun to tell Rose that he loved her. The Doctor is risking tearing a hole in all of time and space just to see Amy and Rory one more time. Just for closure.

Would he risk that much for me?

River shakes off these feelings, determined to keep an air of confidence.

"So what did she say?" River asks, approaching him from behind, peering over his shoulder at the screen.

"Says here that they stayed in New York."

"So, what, are you going to call them?" The Doctor gapes.

"Not here! Not from the TARDIS! Are you mad?" He shakes his head, feigning disgust. "Really, River, if I were to call the Ponds from the TARDIS, that just might be worse than me flying into Manhattan right now!" River shakes her head, laughing, her curls bouncing on her head.

"Whatever you say, sweetie. So how do you plan on calling them?" The Doctor grins.

"We'll use a phone box!"

The irony.

The Doctor steps out of his TARDIS, River following him.

"I'm not quite sure where we are. I didn't exactly specify to the TARDIS where I wanted to be dropped off-"

"Oh, you silly man," River snorts, irritated. "Excuse me." River approaches a man walking by. They appear to be in a type of park. "Sir, where are we?" The old man shakes his head incredulously.

"Fascinating," he says in an American accent. "The human race just keeps getting stupider and stupider." River rolls her eyes.

"Just tell us where we are." The man puts his hands up in surrender.
