I leaned my head against the concrete pole, and stared out towards the courtyard filled with adolescent students chattering back and forth. Some were sitting near the southwest window picking at the gum on the sidewalk, while others were talking amongst themselves about tonight's game. It was the playoffs before the season was over, and I knew everyone would be there. I, on the other-hand, had no intentions of going and being social. I would probably stay at home curled up in my bed, with a book, or watching the newest season of Grey's Anatomy.
"Kendall, what are you so intently staring at over there?" Hudson came up, and placed his husky arm around my neck.
I quickly snapped out of my trance, and turned to look at my bestfriend. I just shook my head and smiled.
Hudson had been my bestfriend for thirteen years now. We met in kindergarten, when he put mulch in the boy's shoes who pushed me off the monkey bars. He had always been there for me when I needed him, fighting my biggest battles for me. Hudson was the kind of guy any girl would drool over, from his dirty blonde hair, ripped body, and irresistible smile. I, although, didn't see him any other way than my bestfriend.
"You wanna come eat with the guys and I after the game tonight?" Oh, and I didn't mention, he's a football player. The quarterback.
I shrugged, and he tightened his grip around my shoulders, shaking me a little bit.
"Oh come on, K! Please tell me you're coming to the game tonight. I need your support. I can't do it without my bestfriend." He huffed, and I turned and shook my head.
"I don't know, Hudson. I really wanted to finished Season 13 of Grey's-"
"Shut up. You're coming. All you do is sit inside that room of yours watching some boring show or reading some crap book. I will drag you out by your hair if I have to." He retorted and raised his eyebrows like I was going to automatically say yes.
"Oh, shutup. You know you love Grey's. Everytime you come over and I'm watching it, you get into it." I pushed him a bit and he looked at me, the puppy eyes getting me everytime.
"That's not the point, K! You have to be there. Support your bestfriend, please." He whined, putting his hands together in a begging motion.
"Okay. Fine. I'll come, but only if you buy me a chocolate chip waffle afterwards." I threw my hands on my hips, and his grin got bigger.
"Yes. Deal. I'll see you tonight! Don't be late." He winked and turned on his heels. I placed my hand on my mouth to hide the laughter trying to escape my mouth. Hudson could not wink, no matter how hard the boy tried.
I slung my backpack onto my left shoulder, and headed towards the student parking lot. I looked towards the crowd of football players making their way toward their cars, seeing Hudson with a brunette around his neck. He was smiling from ear to ear when she reached up to peck him on the lips. I rolled my eyes and cranked my car. Oh, what a night it's going to be.
-
I curled the ends of my hair, letting my blonde locks fall beneath my chest. I hastily put on a grey tee with a pair of ripped skinny jeans, and headed outside towards my beetle. I checked the time on my phone. 6:17. If I didn't leave now, I was going to be late.
Don't be late. Hudson's words rang in my mind.
I rolled my eyes at the thought of him. I couldn't let my bestfriend down.
When I arrived, parking was scarce, and there was a long line at the ticket gate. I should've came earlier. Ugh.
I checked my phone to see that I had received a missed call from Cassie, my other bestfriend. I'm pretty sure she would be here with her boyfriend. He played for the opposing team, but she still attended the same school as I.
"Hey, Kendall! I know you're probably not coming to the game tonight, but I just wanted to let you know.." She began to whisper. "...there's a lot of hot guys on the other team. Please ple-"
"Actually I'm here." I smiled as I was reminded how rare it was for me to step out of my comfort zone. "Just trying to find a parking spot."
"What? Are you serious? I'm coming to the gate now. I can't believe this!" She screamed. "I'm so happy you're here!" And then the line went silent.
I closed my driver side door and made my way towards the line of people near the gate. I saw Cassie running towards me as she waved her for me to come over.
"Hudson saved us tickets. Come on!" She waved her hand a little faster.
We found our seats, which happened to be really good seats, and sat near Cassie's family. I wasn't surprised her family was here. I'm pretty sure they liked her boyfriend, Nick, more than she did.
My eyes roamed for Hudson as I saw him stretching near the field house. I began to wave when his eyes found mine, and he waved back. His smile was bigger than ever.
This couldn't be so bad. Just guys throwing around some balls. I thought to myself.
After the game was over, I immediately felt bad for Hudson. The guys took a tough loss, 56-49. Cassie, on the other hand, was stoked because Nick got two touchdowns, whatever that was. She drug me by the fieldhouse where couples were taking pictures, and other players were meeting up with their families.
"I swear this is the best part. I love it when Nick comes out, he's always so excited to see me. Ugh, did you not see any hot guys on the other team?" She turned and started to point to every guy that walked out of the fieldhouse.
I just shrugged and shook my head no. I only came because Hudson told me to.
But where exactly is he now? My self-conscious began to remind me.
After waiting for a good while, I said my goodbyes to Cassie and her boyfriend, Hudson still no where insight. I made my way out to the parking lot when I dropped my keys underneath my car.
I sighed in defeat and crouched down to look for them, but the from the darkness underneath my car, I couldn't see anything. When I stood up, I turned around and hit something hard.
Ow.
"Looking for these?" A tall, male figure asked as he dangled a set of keys infront of me.
#11. Lions.
I looked up surprisingly to find a dark, curly headed boy in front of me. The darkness illuminating his features, but I could still make out the shadows of his long dark curls, and tall, muscular figure. He looks restless from the game, but he still managed to smile as he reached out to give me my keys.
"Actually, yeah. Thank you." I nodded, and grabbed my keys.
"No problem. I'll, um, see you around." A hint of anguish appeared in his eyes as he turned on his heels.
"Yeah, I'll see you." I looked up and started to say, but before I had the time he was already gone.
