reasons to hate the world.

He lost it. He lost the one thing he wasn’t supposed to lose. The ring. Who loses the ring the night of the proposal? Ashton tore the hotel room apart- picking up cushions, pillows, and clothes, throwing them all across the suite.

“Calm down Ash, I’m sure it’ll turn up somewhere.” Calum tried to reassure him, though honestly it really made no difference; if anything it just aggravated Ashton more. Of course it would ‘turn up’ but just not when he needed it. That’s how thing’s always worked with him.

“Jesus Calum, I need it now. Her parents are flying in tomorrow night and if she doesn’t have that rock on her finger when we pick them up from the airport- I don’t even want to think about what’ll happen.”  He groaned in frustration, sitting next to Calum on the bed.

“You should be glad her dad even said yes in the first place. Don’t they hate you?” Calum pointed out,

“Yes, and now they’re going to hate me even more when they realise they came out here for no reason.” He leaned back on the bed, “God, they’re gonna think I wuss-ed out, or that I was just messing with Arie’s heart. That I’m ‘not serious about anything,’” He imitated their American accents. He just had to ask for her dad’s consent first, didn’t he? He couldn’t have just proposed first and then told her parents, like normal people would in this day and age. That way they wouldn’t be expecting anything. Now they’re flying all the way to Paris to visit their little girl the first day of her engagement all because Ashton told them he’d be getting down on one knee tonight.

“Still no luck with the ring, boys?” Michael’s voice rang out as he entered the room, twirling a pencil in his hand. Ashton leaned back, picked up a pillow, held it to his face and screamed as loudly as he possibly could into it. Calum just patted his leg getting up as Michael made a pained expression over his friend’s anguish.

“Nope. Not up here. The front desk said they didn’t see anything?” Calum answered,

“They promised to keep an eye out for it, but the cleaning staff claimed to have no idea where it may have gone.” Ashton let out a muffled sigh –the pillow still on his face as he lay there hopelessly.

“Did Luke come up with anything?” Calum questioned further,

“No, I’m calling Harry right now. Seeing if they may have accidently taken it.” Luke appeared in the doorway Michael had just entered from.

“It’s no use! Tonight is going to be a waste of a perfect date and I am going to die of embarrassment when she will no doubt question why I went through so much trouble for a random date. Then tomorrow I’m going to die of shame when her parent’s show up at her doorstep asking about plans for a wedding she’s not even aware of.”

“It’s okay; everything will turn out just fine. You need to calm down a bit man,” Michael sat in the chair across from the bed where Ashton was now sitting up on.

“I can’t calm down guys! Arabella’s gonna be here any minute now and we still don’t have the stupid ring!” Ashton whined, pulling at his hair. Why, oh, why did these things always happen to him? And why was it always with the important things? The rest of the guys didn’t respond because… Well, as much as they wanted to help, there wasn’t a lot they could do at that point. Calum dropped himself into the chair next to Michael’s and let out a sigh of defeat as Luke let them know that Harry had no idea where the ring may have gone and ‘did he check the dresser?’

“I’m sorry Ashton, this must suck.” Luke placed himself next to him on the bed putting a comforting arm around his shoulders.

“I’m hopeless. This relationship is hopeless. They were right. I am immune to commitment.” Ashton said sadly, the three other guys exchanged gloomy looks.
