Chapter Three: Fate

I like to sit by myself in class because I can’t handle strangers sitting next to me. I break out in a cold sweat and I try to move as far away as possible from any humans who may come into contact with me. This leaves me with the only other open desk in the class. Guess who Ms. Grazzy pairs that smokin’ hot babe with. You’re right, she sits him in a new desk next to hers. That snake.  I can’t believe this. The one time I want someone to sit next to me he’s stolen by my teacher.

That class was otherwise the same hell it always was. He sat at the front of the class and worked silently, brooding sexily in his desk. From my seat in the back I could see his rippling back muscles through his tight t-shirt as he bent over his calculations. I could feel the room’s temperature raise about 12 kelvins. Nothing could be hotter than a man doing bio-chem.

His pencil scratched out numbers on his paper and I could practically feel his brain whirring. Smart and sexy; what a combination. I twirled a long strand of strawberry blond hair on my finger and dreamed about what our kids would look like. I hoped that they’ll inherit those gorgeous deep blue eyes, the color of the ocean, but at the same time, a little part of me wanted our kids to have my amethyst purple eyes, which, while usually hidden behind ugly glasses, are my only unique point. Hmmm… maybe they can have an eye of each color?

A hand slammed down on my desk and I see Ms. Grazzy’s face stare down at me. She leans down to my ear level, feigning helping me with my biochemistry questions and whispered, “He’s mine.”

I gulped and slid down into my chair as she stood up straight and walked away. My mind is racing. You’re wrong; he’s mine. I thought. A new feeling of determination came over me. As fast as it had come, it left me.

I was snapped out of my thoughts as Ms.Grazzy’s monotone voice began to speak, “Okay class, today in chemistry we’re going to do a group project. Woo hoo.” I sat up straight in my seat. Chemistry? I thought this was Biochem!

“No, this is definitely Chemistry my friend.” I jumped at the voice behind me. I turned around to look at the person who spoke to me. Raven Thunderclap?

“What are you doing here?” I asked tucking a strand of hair behind my ear.

“Furthering my education?” Raven shrugged.

“You have a future?” I asked jokingly. It returned my response with a polite glare and returned to its notes.

I looked at the desk next to me and then back at Raven. Raven smirked, scribbling something down. I sighed dramatically, leaned towards Raven and whispered “ You know you want to.”

“Ivy- Black, pay attention!” Ms.Grazzy said with her hands on her hips. I blushed red and turned back to the board, giving it extra attention.

“Since Miss Shella decided that she wasn’t going to pay attention today, can someone help her out with what she's missed.” Everyone’s head turned towards me and mystery guy raised his hand.

“I volunteer as tribute!”

I gasped in shock as he strutted towards me, sitting down next to me in one fluid movement. I tucked a strand of hair behind my ear and discreetly wiped my hands on my pants.  As he leaned back I stuck out my hand towards him “Hi, I’m Ivy-Black Shella.” I muttered.

He glanced at my hand and then back at my face and then my hand one more  time. Just as I was about to pull my hand away he gripped it with utmost strength “Ryder Badasse.”

I grinned, letting go of his hand and facing the board. Maybe this year won’t be so bad. From there on it was a glare down with Ms.Grazzy and her utmost hate for me at the moment.
