Prologue
The crest on her torn and burnt dress was enough to tell him about who she was. A fire mage. Mages were rare in Vanic and a fire mage was even rarer. The frigid climate of Vanic only allowed ice mages to use their powers, and he, being an ice mage, knew that better than anyone else. So how did she manage to survive? And moreover what was she doing on Vanic? And if she was a fire mage, why was she covered with burns?
Fire mages were immune to heat, just like ice mages were immune to the cold. He examined them closely and reeled back in shock. Shadow Fire. That was caused those terrible burns and he knew that if left untreated, they would eventually kill her.
As he gathered her in his arms and picked her up, his thoughts strayed to the days during which he was a student at the Anima Academy for Magic. Suddenly, he felt that he was a student again, listening to Miss Kingsley’s lesson on fire.
“Fire is an element which protects us and yet it destroys, ravaging everything in its path. Now most of you here are in your second year and have learnt about the basics of the four elements. Today, it is my duty to share with you the different forms of fire.”
She flicked her wrist and a small golden flame appeared above her hand making the students gape in awe.
“The Golden Flame. It is used mainly in healing techniques and for purification. Most fire mages are able to use this and it is commonly used. It also gives fire mages the ability to look into the future and their control over clairvoyance. Now on to the second type of fire , that which is mainly used for combat.”
A deep shade of red coloured the flame and she said “The red flame, is the one which we fire mages, use for combat. The fire mages in Venefica’s army use this flame to defend the realms from evil and destruction.”
The flame in her palm became a calm, soothing blue, and she asked her students “Now can anyone tell me which kind of flame this one is?” On seeing two students raise their hands at the same time she said “Yes Felix. Charalyn you’ll get your chance too.”
“The blue flame is symbol of calmness and purity. It is used to calm people down.”
“Very good but that answer is incomplete. What about you, Charalyn?”
“The blue flame is mainly used for spiritual communication. It helps to communicate with lost spirits and other spiritual beings. It also gives fire mages their unique ability to teleport, their telepathic skills and also telekinesis which all the others mages are not born with but acquire with great difficulty.”
Tatiana Kingsley was impressed by her answer. Not all of her students were as bright as Charalyn and Tiana knew that she would soar to great heights.
All of a sudden, the flame’s colour deepened to dark black and Tatiana looked at the flame with horror .
“ No, not now!!”, She thought wildly. She had always hidden the fact that she was a shadow fire mage but it seemed that suprotransmutation spell that she had used was weakening.
The shadow flame grew bigger engulfing her entire arm . The students looked on with shock and panic written on their faces…….
He was snapped out of his thoughts as the woman in his arms stirred . Piercing blue eyes gazed up at him and she said in a weak voice“ Where am I? Who are you?”
