Beyond the Willow Tree
Prologue: Wishing Willow
"Please oh Great Wizard! Grant my wish! I must have her hand in marriage." A young man in tattered clothes said. He was bowing to an older man in silken robes sitting on a golden throne, elegantly carved and highlighted with sparkling gems.
"You seek passage between the worlds. That is a very dangerous thing boy. Are you aware of the consequences?" The older man spoke in a booming voice, echoing through the room as he stroked his beard.
"I am oh Great Wizard, but it is a small price to pay for a lifetime of wonders." The young man said pleadingly as he raised his head from the ground to look into the eyes of the older man. The Great Wizard looked down at the man from his throne. He was looking deep into the young man's eyes, deep into his soul, to find his true intentions. Seeing that he indeed was acting out of love the Wizard decided to grant his wish.
"Then I shall grant your request, but my power will only allow for five years in their world, mind you. Just enough time to get what you desire." The old Wizard said. The young man's face lit up with joy and knelt at the old man's feet, kissing them in thanks.
"Thank you Great Wizard. Thank you! You have granted my truest desire and made me a happy man. Please let us waste no time. Send me right away!" said the young man.
"As you wish" The Great Wizard said, standing up from his throne and taking the staff that rested at his side. He started to chant, slicing the air like butter with his staff. The slice created a tear into another world. "Be forewarned. He who passes through the void may never again return. After your five years in their world are over you shall die." The Wizard warned as the young man got to his feet. He paused for a moment as his words sunk in.
"I am aware. I knew the moment you asked if this is what I truly wanted." The young man said. He took a few steps forward until he was face to face with the tear in the void. The Wizard took a step to the side allowing the young man to pass through. "My darling...I am coming for you." He said taking in one more deep breath.
"Heed my final words boy. A child born between two worlds; joined by wind, leaf, river, ash, and heart shall mend broken bindings, 17 years after first colliding." The Wizard said as the young man stepped into the void. The old man closed his eyes, shook his head and sealed the tear in the void like he had done many times before. He turned his back to where the tear once was and started back to his throne. "Best luck to you boy. You shall need it." He said.
