You arrived at an old gym, parking the bike out of view. You and Brett made your way through the many rooms of gym equipment, pausing only when you reached an elevator. You pushed the 'up' button. You both waited a few seconds in awkward silence.
You stepped out of the elevator when it got to the next floor. Brett took the lead from there. He reached a closed door. "Wait here." he ordered, "I'll be quick." You waited. He came back out. "It turns out I'll be longer than I expected. Just hold on for a couple minutes."
A few minutes later, you heard a scraping noise behind you. You have been paranoid your whole life, and paranoia doesn't cease without you willing it to. You took out your blaster from its holster and slowly crept toward the source of the noise. You couldn't see anything that could've caused the noise, but that didn't mean it wasn't there.
*thump* You turned around and saw the silhouette of a girl in the shadowed part of the corridor you just walked down. You shot at her, but she evaded the bolt with ease. She sprinted down the corridor and drew a katana from a sheath on her back. Why didn't I bring my katana?! you thought. She had her hood up, so you couldn't see her face. You readied yourself in an offensive position. The girl lunged at you, but you ducked, aiming a punch at her stomach. She dodged it, but the punch hit her arm instead, knocking the sword from her grasp.
"Let's continue this fight hand-to-hand." you suggested. The girl nodded back and swiped her leg across the ground, knocking you off your feet. She prepared to stamp on your neck but you rolled away just as she brought her foot down. You're a good defender, said a voice in your head that definitely wasn't yours, but how good of an attacker are you? You looked up to see the girl now wielding a dagger. She caught you off guard and slashed at your leg. There was now an L-shaped hole in your combat pants.
You winced, but shrugged off the pain. Still on the ground, you dived for the dropped katana. You grabbed it and leaped up off the floor. You assumed a sword fighting position. "Come at me!" you yelled. She threw the dagger at you but you deflected it with the sword. You walked forward, feeling like you had the upper hand. The girl swung a punch at your face. You sliced off her hand before it reached your cheekbone.
The girl stayed silent, clutching the spurting stump that is now her wrist. She fell to her knees. You raised the katana above your head. That's enough! said the unfamiliar voice in your head, You've clearly won. Isn't that enough for you? You lowered the weapon, staring at the amputated hand bleeding on the floor. You gasped and placed the sword beside it, weeping. What have I done?! you thought.
"(Y/N)? (Y/N)?" you heard Brett shout from down the hall, "There you are!" He ran over to you, then stopped, noticing the hooded girl bleeding on the floor. "Oh no! Mosa!" said Brett worriedly. You were shocked. "Do you know her?!" you asked furiously. "Yeah." he replied, "Did you do this?" "Only because she tried to kill me!" you moaned, remembering the L-shaped gash on your shin and pointing at it. "That's sort of her trademark." said Brett casually, "Let me get that for you." He produced a bandage from his pocket and applied it to your wound. "That's going to scar. Just warning you." he added, "Speaking of scars, how's that one on your shoulder?" He was now trying to minimise the amount of blood loss from the girl's stump.
You looked at your shoulder. You got that particular scar from your last encounter with Mangled. He had captured you and burned an M-shape into your shoulder with a hot iron. You shivered at the memory. At this stage, you were going to have the whole alphabet scarred on your body. "How did you know about my scar?" you asked. "I told you," reminded Brett desperately, "We were friends!" "Then how come I don't remember you?!" you screamed.
"That's a really long story." he said, "God, she's bleeding out fast! I'm going to bring her to the med wing. Come on." "What about Nate? If he even is alive?" you questioned. "He'll have to wait! My friend's dying!" Brett responded. You and Brett ran to the other side of the building, carrying the girl. When you reached the med wing, Brett placed her in a tank full of a slimy, blue liquid. He sighed.
You decided to ask about the girl, "Who is she?" You gestured at her. "Her name's Lacrymosa Ignorance," he said, "She's an assassin I befriended years ago." Lacrimosa, you thought, Latin for 'weeping'. Now that she was in the tank, her hood was down. Her face was covered by a white mask with black slits at the eyes and an X at the mouth. She was wearing a black t-shirt with 'FOE' written in blue on it. She had three black straps around each of her arms. Her hair was blue with a purple strand running through it. Wow, she's some emo, you thought.
In the corner of the room you were in, there was a desk. You went over to inspect it and found multiple pieces of paper with 'Lacrymosa Ultimus' and other similar things written on them. Brett caught you looking at them and rushed over to stop you. "You like her?!" you shrieked. He blushed visibly. "Maybe." he said meekly, "What does it matter to you anyway?" The two of you sat in silence while you waited for Lacrymosa to heal. The tank she was in was filled with a substance called sinstaneel, which could heal injuries much quicker than the body can. It was also known as insta-heal, as you could see why.
With Lacrymosa out of the tank and on to a bed, you and Brett set off again to see Nate. You reached a locked door. "Password?!" boomed a voice from behind the door, scaring you half to death. You thought about what the password could be. "StopRewind." you chanced. You didn't know where that came from, but it must've been important. The sound of a heavy latch being moved reverberated across the hall. The door opened to reveal a familiar, smiling face. "(Y/N). Long time no see."
