KATE P.O.V
I walk down my street, blasting music into my ears as I approach my house. I feel my phone buzz in my pocket, and I take it out to find that I have a text from Laci on my screen.
Of course you're too lazy to text me the whole damn thing! Call me you asshole. ~Laci
I laugh at her text as I read it, and instantly dial her number into the keypad. I quickly run into my house, throwing my bag down before she answers, and return outside so no one can hear the conversation.
"Hey lazy bitch, what did your dad say about tomorrow night?" She answers, her voice making me smile.
"He said that you're more than welcome to come over, but he's going out with my mom so they won't be home until like 1 in the morning," I reply, talking quickly.
"Really, you couldn't text that!? Damn your laziness has reached a new level, Katie!" Her laughter fills my ears, making me blush slightly.
"Well sooooorrrryyyyyyy," I giggle into the speaker.
"I'll be over at 8, I'm going out to dinner with my parents... so I'll come over after," She says through laughter.
"Alright! I miss you, we haven't hung out in forever! I'm so excited for you to see my house all decorated for Halloween! We went all out this year!" I say excitedly as I pace around my backyard. The fall breeze blows through my hair, tossing it around slightly.
"I miss you too! We haven't cuddled in so long, I need it!" I smile at the thought of cuddling, secretly craving it.
*******
I pick up my bag as I walk into my house, my hands and feet practically frozen from standing outside on the phone for so long. I rush up the stairs, the current conversation with Laci fresh in my mind. Stop it. Stop thinking like this. You know she will never feel the same. She's straight. She's only your best friend, nothing more. My mind fights with itself, trying to push the feelings for Laci away. I put my school stuff away and clean up around my house, admiring all of the crazy decorations. Fake pumpkins rest on my dresser, and orange fall scented candles are spread throughout my house. Inflatable ghosts and witches are blown up in my front yard, along with some pumpkins that I had carved with Laci a few days ago. My living room is filled with pumpkins and fake spider webs that hold small plastic black and orange spiders.
I change into my pajamas and crawl into my bed, thinking about being able to spend time with my best friend tomorrow. Thoughts of Laci fills my head again, and I begin to feel butterflies in my stomach. No Kate, stop this! You can't feel this way, you're going to ruin everything if you do. Stop it!
