Jason Knight knew that it was going to be a long day. Three people were dead in the past 72 hours. This was now the latest one. Every crime scene had been worse than the other.

A family of four were dead. Brutally murdered in their own home. The killer was smart, he left nothing behind, but dead bodies.

"From what we can tell, the killer made the parents watch as he tortured and murdered the children, then he killed the mother and saved the father for last," Henry Weston, the crime scene tech, said.

Jason solemnly looked at the mother and father. They were still laying in bed. Their faces were unrecognizable. The killer made sure they suffered before he decided to end their lives. Jason couldn't imagine why someone would do this.

" This guy is really sick, Jason," Henry said. " He physically beat the two children to death then raped the mother."

Jason felt his anger boiling, how could someone do this, he thought.

" Excuse me, Detective Knight." Jason turned towards the voice. " Yes." "Sir, I found this down stairs on the kitchen counter." Jason grabbed a note inside a clear plastic, evidence bag from the young officer.

Jason examined the contents. " It's another letter," Jason said, as he pulled the letter out of the bag.

" What does it say?" Henry Weston asked.

Jason read the letter, " In life there is so much heartache, disappointment, and pain. Only in death can one truly have eternal peace."

Jason Knight had been a Camden City homicide detective for seven years, a police officer for ten years. Not once could he remember a suspect being this cold, cruel, and calculated. The only thing this killer left behind were sadistic notes and dead bodies.

" I want this entire house searched for every and anything!" Jason yelled. I have to know who's behind this, Jason thought to himself. He knew that they would find nothing, this guy was just too smart. But they all make mistakes. Yet, how many people are going to have to die before this killer makes a mistake.

Special Agent Daniel Hill was on her fourth cup of coffee. She was determined to solve a group of gruesome murders that had every law enforcement agency in New York on pins and needles. There had been five murders in the past month, and no one knew anything.

" Agent Hill, I think I found something ." " What is it, Jackson?" Daniel asked. " Remember we were wondering why the murders had stopped so abruptly?" Jackson asked. " Yes." Daniel replied. " I've been checking to see if there were any other murders that are the same or similar type murders nation wide," Jackson said. " Who ever this guy is, he's committed over a two dozen murders in ten different states. The only thing that connects him to all the murders are the sick notes he leaves at every crime."

Daniel wasn't surprised. This guy was very smart and he had to have some knowledge about forensics because there was never any trace of the suspect at any of the crime scenes that would tell them who he was. Even the notes he left behind gave them nothing. No fingerprints on the notes were ever found.

" Good work, Jackson. When was the first murder committed?" Daniel asked. " Ten years ago in Franklin, New Jersey," Jackson replied. " Let's start there, maybe he was sloppy then and somebody can tell us something about who this killer is." Daniel said.

It was a very beautiful day, not a cloud in the sky. Camden High Park was crowded with people. He watched them as they played catch in the park. They seemed so happy. The mother watched as father and son threw a football to each other. Such a photogenic scene. He knew that this was merely a mirage. This family was far from what they projected. The father was a drunk and beat his wife and son constantly. The mother was a whore, sleeping with her boss and a few neighbors. The son was rotten to the core, and a homosexual. He smiled at them but inside he hated them. He knew everything about them, all their dirty secrets.

He grew tired of watching them, besides, he had other things to attend to. He grabbed his things and quickly left the park. Too much to do, not enough time, he thought. He looked at the park once more, got in his car and drove away.

CHAPTER 2
Special Agent Daniel Hill looked at the paper again. She was in the right place. 1835 Bradley Ave. In Franklyn, New Jersey.
Daniel had her partner, Special Agent Greg Jackson, look into the murders that happened here ten years ago. Unfortunately there wasn't much to go on.
