i took another sip of my sweet tea and sat, facing loren. she was my long time friend, and she comes to stay with me at work when she's very bored. i enjoy her company, even if she's way more outgoing than me, since our moms are friends, i got used to have her around.
fridays are my favourite days to work on. it's so calm and never crowded. i can just relax and think about the upcoming weekend. sadly, summer's almost over and i'll soon have to go back to school, which is terrible.
'i'll never be able to get over these cookies' sighs loren, 'they're too good'.
i smile as she takes another bite of our homemade chocolate cookies. i'll stick with sweet tea, my all time favourite drink. as i'm reading the last chapter of my pocket book, i hear the door opening and i walk to the counter to take the orders.
i throw my paper cup and tuck a piece of my short hair behind my ear before putting my head up. oh, three boys are standing in front of me, they strangely seem familiar. i ignore the thought and force a smile before asking politely :
'hey, what can i get you?'
'are you jasmin?' the shorter one asks.
'how would you know?' i ask, suspicious.
'your mother told us we'd find you here. we'll work with her for the next months at least. she wanted us to um... link?' the blond kid starts.
i stare at the three boys for awhile before realizing i should say something. my eyes widen, i'm embarrassing myself. i clear my throat.
'oh, um so should we sit or something? i was with-'
'oh, hey loren!' they say.
i sigh, they know her. without adding anything, i walk up to her and whisper, before they can hear.
'they work with my mom, introduce us before it becomes awkward'
'sure! these kids are some of my best friends' she squeals, i nod and add a chair to the table.
'you know each other? that's awesome' one of the kids say to loren.
'our moms were friends in highschool, we grew up together. now jas, this is charles, aaron, joey'
i try memorizing their names and start again.
'nice to meet you all' i force a smile.
i hate it but i'm so awkward
'right back at you, i like your shirt' joey says.
i'm wearing the most basic shirt from american eagle, the grey sweater that says california on it. probably every girl on this earth has it in their closet. joey clearly doesn't like my shirt, and i should stop investigating on everything they say too.
'thank you' i smile.
'how was tour?' asks loren.
i should try to interact with them, but that's not my thing anyways. i finish my book shortly after they start chatting and find myself staring at them. i think the blond one, charles, goes to my school, not sure though.
they obviously were familiar because their face popped up on my timelines many times and they're probably all over my explore page but i never payed enough attention to stalk them and learn their names.
never been a fan of social media and that's why i never really grew on it. my mom tried to help me out, but i'd always forget to post or do what internet people do. i have a small following because of the friends i make through my mom's business. i don't passe a 150k on any platform, thank god.
mama 💘 did you meet up with the boys?
i take out my phone and answer my mom positively. she tells me about how excited she is for me to make new friends and to take care. friends is a big word, i barely got to know them, even if the convo loren is keeping up seems delightful.
they're probably judging me hardcore and calling me antisocial, but i could care less, that's exactly what i am, with most people, at least.
'what's your instagram?' asks charles, unlocking his phone.
before i can say that i don't really use instagram and that it would be useless for them to follow me loren blurts my informations. i know she thinks she's helping me out by doing this.
'jasminbel' she spells.
crap, i cringe at the thought of my last photo, posted three months ago. hopefully they don't ask for my number or anything creepy like this. okay, i seriously have a problem. i'll post tonight to clear my mind for at least the next weeks.
when the digital clock flashes 6:00, it's time for me to close the shop. i get up, turn the machines off, clean the last tables, unpin my badge and turn the lights off. i then follow the rest of the group outside, and lock the door behind us.
'so, um, i'll see you guys around?' i lastly say before walking back to my car followed by loren. i can hear a 'yes' and some 'bye's.
'they're cool, huh?' she starts.
'awesome' i answer, starting the engine.
'any of them turning you on?' she says lightly.
i almost choke on my gum. i should probably start learning their last names or something before picking the one i want to marry. kidding.
'no, thought you knew me better.' i mumble.
'joey's not bad... or are you more into blondies?'
'shut up, loren' i blurt.
we leave the coffeehouse's parking lot.
