The night was dark and eerily quiet. His footsteps echoed throughout the lifeless forest, leaving behind a muddy trail. The young boy was clearly lost yet surprisingly composed, his eyes icy and ruthless, fixed upon the path ahead. However, he eventually grew tired, forcing him to lean on a nearby tree to catch his breath.
"Ryuk," the boy suddenly called out to the darkness. "Enough with your games. Where are we and why are we here?"
The Shinigami merely shrugged. "This is not my doing, but I'll tell you all that I know. The barriers of time is at its thinnest every 100th full moon, we Death Gods call it the 'Blood Moon'. There is a legend which states that every time a Blood Moon occurs, the human that desires to stay at the present the most will be thrust back into a random point in the past."
Light's eyes widened, "I cannot afford to go missing right now; I won't be able to judge criminals here. I have to go back. There has to be a way."
"In fact, there is." Ryuk chuckled, "with the Death Note, it'll be a piece of cake. All we need to do is kill someone of high status. Say, a king, or perhaps a nobleman."
Light sneered and suddenly broke out into a hysterical laugh. "Then there's nothing to worry about. We'll get this done in no time. First, Ryuk, how do we get out of this forest? I'm sick of it already."
Ryuk soared up and stood atop the highest branch. "We're actually very close to the edge of the woods. Beyond that, I can see a large mansion with no soldiers or patrols in sight. It must belong to a rich nobleman."
Light laughed yet again. "Luckily for us, and very unfortunate to whoever may reside there. Ryuk, lead the way."
"Certainly." The duo sped up, hoping to reach the mansion before sunrise. Certain of his success, judging criminals had become the least of Light's concerns- he had already written names a few days in advance, after all. However, little did they know, they had chosen to pick a fight with the worst opponents possible...
