Black Butler x Death Note Crossover

Chapter 1

It was still pitch black when they arrived at the mansion. Light gave a light knock, unsure if he would get an answer. To his surprise, a tall man opened the door.

"Who could possibly need to visit the Phantomhive manor at this hour?" he asked.

Light carefully observed every detail of this man's face, as he may need to be killed. His skin was pale as freshly laid snow, hair dark as the raven's wing and eyes piercing and red as blood.

"My name is Sebastian Michaelis, and I am the Phantomhive butler. And may I ask who you are?"

Light realised that judging by his accent, they must be in England. Taking in the scale of the manor and Sebastian's social position, he knew that it should be the 18-19th centuries.

Having considered everything thoroughly, he said the most natural line in this scenario. "My name is Kaito Ito, a Japanese trader. I was lost because I wanted to explore the foreign land. I offer my sincerest apologies for bothering you at this hour, and I hope that I could stay here for the night."

"Very well," Sebastian bowed, "I shall lead you up to a spare room."

With that, Light and Ryuk walked in, followed closely by Sebastian. He tightened his grip on the candles he had been holding. A Shinigami along with a human... he thought. The Shinigami seems to be invisible to other humans. How troublesome. Then, as if everything was moving in slow motion, Ryuk turned around and made eye contact with Sebastian. Just like how Sebastian knew who Ryuk was in a matter of seconds, Ryuk knew Sebastian's true identity.

"I see," he whispered under his breath, "a demon, huh. How fascinating. The next couple of days should be fun."

"What is it, Ryuk?" Light asked quietly.

Sebastian glared at the Shinigami, but Ryuk had no intention to tell Light in the first place. "Nothing," he said with a light chuckle, "you should rest for the night and meet the owner of this place tomorrow morning."

They had turned a corner in the mansion. "This is your room. Please stay here until morning, as the servants of this manor sleep in the same corridor, and they would not want to be disturbed. Good night, I will come back in the morning." With that, Sebastian closed the door quietly.
