"Was there anything suspicious or anyone suspicious you can remember?" Sheriff Carrie asks me.

"No ma'am." I say.

"Ok then. You're free to go then." She scribbles something down on her notebook.

"Thanks." I say. I join Zoey and Ethan with Alexa, who was being interrogated the most.

"Now, honey, I know how much this has impacted you, but can you please work with us?" says a burly sheriff.

"Look, Dad, if I knew any more than I already did, I would've already told you." Alexa snaps.

"Alright, honey. Get home safe." Alexa's dad says.

"She will, Mr. Burton." Zoey tells him.

We walk away from the sheriff, and gather by our cars. Alexa continuously sniffles as Zoey covers her up with Logan's oversized letterman jacket.

"What do you think killed them?" Logan asks.

"Something awful," Alexa says. "They looked like they were torn apart by a...monster. Oh God, Zoey, what kind of animal would do that?" She buries her face into Zoey's shoulder.

"A bear maybe." Ethan says. "They are common around these parts."

"Or maybe some wolves?" I suggest. "It's the wilderness; predators gotta eat too."

"Yeah. I mean, it's the circle of life, Alexa," Zoey says.

"Yeah, you're right," Alexa agrees. "But it was something awful the way they were killed."

"At least they're at peace now." Logan says. We all look at him in bewilderment.

"What? A guy can't be sensitive every now and then?" He says defensively.

"Yeah, whatever dude." Ethan laughs, sounding like music to my ears. Logan punches on the arm and they say their goodnights as they walk to Logan's pickup truck.

"It was really nice meeting you, Camilla." Zoey says.

"Thank you guys for inviting me." I say.

"Anytime." Alexa drunkenly mumbles from the front seat of Zoey's car.

"See you at school tomorrow?" Zoey asks.

"Wouldn't miss it." I say.

I watch them drive off before walking over to Sheriff Carrie.

"Can I help you ma'am?" I make sure she is looking into my eyes before I say;

"The deer were killed by a bear, coyotes picked at the remains, making it seem like they were mutilated. You found nothing suspicious to make it seem dangerous for anyone." I didn't necessarily want to compel her, but it had to be done if I wanted to live a "normal" life.

She nodded her head in agreement before turning and yelling out "All clear boys!"

I replay in my head the part of the night I spent with Camilla. I remember the soft moonlight falling on her long brown hair, how her eyes shone brighter than the stars did, and how her smile was the most amazing sight I had ever seen. I wish I had the courage to tell her how beautiful she was.

Buzz buzz.

My phone vibrated with a new text message. I unlock my phone and see the notification that Camilla texted.

Hey nature guide. Busy?

I chuckle at the nickname and reply;

No, What's up?

Almost immediately a text comes back;

Come out onto your front porch.

I almost trip and die running down the stairs to see her pretty face once again.

I open the door and see her staring at the moon once more.

"Hey there." I say awkwardly. God, why am I such a dork?

"I have good news," She says. "The deer carcasses were just some victims of a bear and coyotes picked at the remains. That's why they looked so bad."

"I bet Alexa will elated." I say.

"But that's not the only reason I came here." she says, looking down.

"Really?" I say, holding back the urge to smile.

"I don't know if you can feel it too, but when I'm with you, it's like my world gets better. I feel like a better person because of you, and I don't want to give up that feeling." She says, blushing and twiddling her thumbs.

"Camilla." I say, moving closer.

"Yes?" she asks, looking up. Our faces are two inches apart, and we stare into each other's eyes. My hand finds her face and we kiss. A passionate, but soft kiss. We break apart after a minute, almost gasping for air, her more than me.

"Camilla? Are you ok?" I ask, reaching for her. She rejects my gesture and says quite hurriedly;

"I'm fine. Um, I think I need to go home." She rushes off my porch and quickly gets in her car. She leaves before I could even stop her, leaving me confused. I shake my head and go back inside so I could try to get a good night's sleep, knowing my dreams would be filled with the image of Camilla.
