I ran as fast as my feet could carry me, away from Willow's house. As far away as I possibly could.

/hey, it's that girl!/

/we're gonna get you for what you did to Willow!/

/you're such a bitch! see you in court!/

/i hope you rot in hell!/

I can't escape their remarks, can't leave them, can't throw them away. Not unless I run. Somewhere far, far away, where no one knows who I am. Or what I've done.

The soles of my old high-top converse were already worn out from running and falling on the rocky road to the forest.

The tears staining my face cooled me off, as a cold wind blew, biting at my ears.

/follow her! that's the girl! the one with the white sneakers!/

Shit.

I've tried apologizing, I've tried confessing, I've tried turning myself in. No one wants to hear what I want to say.

Sometimes I'll feel like I'm flying. Like I'm in pure bliss. But of course, I don't live in a quixotic world. When I open my eyes, I'm really falling.

Especially with what I did... my life was going perfectly. But...

No one would ever understand. No one could ever understand. No one should ever understand.

If they understood me, then they'd be sinners too. Not sinners who disrespect their parents or cheat, the kinds that deserve hell.

So I'm not sure why I'm still running away from my consequence. My truth.

But I'm still young. I want to live. I haven't seen enough in my twenty-two years to be satisfied... not yet.

I keep sprinting and sniffling, hearing the car behind me get closer and closer. Screams of the men getting louder, more...real.

"P-Please! I'll turn myself in, I'll do anything! Please stop following me!" I yelled desperately back at them, trying not to let them see my crying.

"You aren't getting away from us this time, you little shit!" They yelled back aggressively, the engines revving.

No. I don't want to die. Please, somebody. Anybody. Save me.

But no one was around, as usual.

My one and only savior stood in front of me. An old dilapidated wooden sign, with green wooden letters spelling out "Edgebrook Forest".

I'm close. All I have to do is run into the forest, make a right, and I'll be at the shed.

"Hey! The little twat is going into the trees! Do we chase 'er on foot?!" One of the men yelled to the man driving.

"No, goddamnit! You dumbasses, we should've caught her instead of teasing her beforehand!" He screamed in response, stopping the car abruptly as he slapped the steering wheel in anger.
