I lug the last box into my new house and flop myself onto the old mattress.
"Uuuugh," I groan into the springy box.
I check the time on my watch. 5:32 am. It's too early for this.
"Don't worry, Stephanie. This is nothing compared to what Master Fu has in store for you," my kwami, Scar, pats my head and says to me, referring to why I moved to Paris in the first place.
I lead a double life; a normal civilian and a superhero. Scar gives me my powers, as all kwamis do to their miraculous holders. My miraculous, which holds my powers, is actually the scar that I have on my side. It makes no sense because a holder is supposed to be chosen by a Guardian and miraculous are supposed to be able to come off, but I was born with mine. Meant to be, I guess?
There are seven other current miraculous holders: the butterfly, the bee, the fox, the turtle, the peacock, and - most importantly - the ladybug and the black cat. That's another reason mine makes no sense; the rest are animals or insects, but mine isn't something that can live.
I came here to see Master Fu, the last Guardian of the miraculous. He sent me an urgent message saying that the city is in danger and that I had to team up with the cat and ladybug miraculous holders to save the people of Paris. Once I get Scar something to eat, I'm going to head over to the Chinese Massage Palace to meet with the Master.
I manage to stand up, though I'm horribly tired. "Scar, lay low," I whisper as I open the front door and step outside. He hides in my bag as I walk down the street to a bakery, The Tom & Sabine Boulangerie Patisserie. I pull out some money from my bag as I enter.
"Hey, welcome to the Dupain-Cheng Bakery," a blue-haired girl, who looks around my age, says cheerfully behind the counter, though she seems to be tired, judging by the dark circles under her eyes. I smile in response and walk up to her. "I'm Marinette."
"I'm Stephanie. I just moved here." I say.
"Nice to meet you! You'll like it in Paris. So, how can I help you?"
"I just want a box of mixed cookies, please."
"Of course. Let me grab them." She walks to the glass casings next to her and returns a moment later with a box in her hand.
"Thanks, Marinette!" I hand her some money and walk outside with the box in my hand.
"I'll see you around!"
"She seems nice!" Scar says sweetly, poking his head out. I nod and head back to my house.
Scar flies out and sits on the counter. I open the box and hand him one, taking one for myself.
"Alright, Scar, time to go."
"We better get going then." He hides in my bag as I make sure to lock the door behind me as I head to Master Fu's shop.
A few minutes later, I hear a scream in the distance. I guess Master Fu can wait. I run behind a building and Scar flies out.
"Scar, Stitch Me Up!"
I transform into my alter ego, Stitches, and run towards the sound. Arriving at the Eiffel Tower, I spot two figures trying to fend off a small boy. I quickly approach them, leaping over the crowd that has formed nearby.
