Adrien's POVI crawl out of my bed and walk lazily towards my bathroom as I face the fact that I have to go to school after such a long night. I had visited Mari and we spent the entire night together and she ended up sleeping next to me. I couldn't bear to wake her up, she did look beautiful asleep so I had left a note on her desk and left to sleep on my own bed. Least to say I was very, very tired.
"Wow, you look like shit," says Plagg behind me.
Rolling my eyes was hard enough, so I look towards the mirror and stand indifferently as I stare at my reflection. I had huge bags under my eyes and my hair was messy beyond salvation. I sigh, I guess I'm going to school looking like a zombie. Woohoo.
I quickly dress and go to school not bothering to brush my hair. I walk up the front stairs of the school half asleep and I almost fall forward as I feel a hand collide with my back. I look up to find Nino and I give him the nastiest glare I can muster.
He looks taken aback,"Woah, what happened to you dude?"
I sigh, "Stayed up all night watching Netflix, eventually this happened," I say pointing at the disaster that is my face.
Nino smiles, "Well then I guess it's good you're my best friend and you're hungover on Netflix. It's normal dude." He puts his hand on top of my back and guides me towards the front of the school.
When we walk into the school I wasn't prepared for the whispers that followed Nino and I. I could hear a few of them. "What happened to Adrien?" "Oh my god is that some new kid that looks like Adrien?" "Adrien looks like he's hungover on some bad alcohol."
During the spectacle that was people whispering about me, (because apparently there's nothing better to talk about) I notice Marinette walking with Alya by her side. I try to smile towards them but end up coming short. They stop in front of us and Marinnette stares at me with worry.
She puts the back of her hand on my forehead, "Oh my god Adrien you look sick, are you okay?"
I smile and move her hand from my forehead. "I'm fine Marinnette, I just didn't get enough sleep," I say still holding onto her hand.
She lets out a sigh of relieve and smiles, "What made you stay up all night?"
I open my mouth but Alya jumps in. "Well this is a clear side effect of too much Netflix, am I right?" she says with a smirk.
Nino starts laughing next to me, "That's my girl, always knowing what's wrong." He moves to wrap an arm around her shoulders. "Ya know, Alya and I better get going, we have some student counsel issues to work out, I mean with the homecoming party and all," he says, "You coming Marinnette?"
I turn towards her only to find her looking down at my hand still holding hers. She seems to notice me staring at hr and quickly looks away, her cheeks turning a bright red. "Er, I'm going to talk to Adrien for a bit, but I'll catch up," she says smiling at Nino and Alya.
Nino looks from me to Marinnette and smiles wildly. "Well then, see you later dudes," he says as he starts walking away with Alya. Alya turns her head and winks at Marinnette before disappearing into the crowd of students.
I watch them leave and then I realize that I've been holding Mari's hand for too long. I gently let it go and start walking Marinnette right besides me.
"So what's really going on Adrien?" she asks.
I stop abruptly and look down at her face, "What do you mean, I'm fine, just tired."
She raises an eyebrow, unconvinced. "Adrien I've known you for three years, I can tell when something's going on," she says crossing her arms over her chest.
I pass a hand through my long hair and sigh. "You're good," I say with a low chuckle.
She chuckles back but punches me gently on my arm, "C'mon, tell me what's up."
I take a deep breath, "It's just all of this," I say motioning to the students around us. "To them I'm not a classmate or a normal kid walking around the halls, I'm Adrien Agreste, the guy who's a model and apparently the school's it boy. I'm constantly maintaining an act for them, or more for my dad, because he's always saying that I have to be the image of perfection and I'm just tired of it all," I say looking into her eyes, "I'm tired of not being me."
She looks at me and it seems like what she's feeling is almost as if it were guilt. She opens her mouth to say something but decides against it. She looks away and whispers an almost inaudible, "Sorry."
I look at her confused, "You haven't done anything wrong Marinette, so why are you apologizing?"
She looks down on her feet, "It's just, no one deserves to feel that way, they should be able to feel happiness at any cost."
I smile and grab her shoulder to turn her towards me. "Do you really believe that?" I ask her.
She nods.
"Then nothing will make me happier than going on a movie date with you."
Her eyes widen, "Wh- what did you say?"
I chuckle, "Marinnette would you like to go to the movies with me as my date?"
She smiles, "Oh my God yes!" she chuckles, "Um, uh- yeah, I mean just text me the details and I'll be there."
I smile, "Done, now go get to that counsel meeting, they need their president after all."
She nods and walks away, but not before giving me a kiss on my unshaved cheek.
As she leaves I can't help but chuckle. That girl is really something.
