xxxxxxxxxxxChapter 1xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
"Kaitlin!! What happened?!" Estrea called from the other side of the street. Police and ambulance cars were surrounding Lacey's house, blocking and unblocking Estrea's view of me and the house. Sirens were piercing the ears of everyone who came within about five houses of Lacey's.
I was sobbing. I couldn't help it. Of all the things that could've happened! This is the one thing it shouldn't have come to!
Estrea saw that I was crying and came sprinting across the street and hit me with a full force hug. Adeola, Aniyah, and Nadia came streaming after her, also seeing the look that crossed my face.
"Lacey....sh--she..." I couldn't get the words fully out of my mouth. I couldn't take it anymore! It would never fully process through my thick brain.
"What happened to Lacey, honey?" Nadia said in my face,"Is she okay?" She was holding my shoulders to keep me from looking away from her.
"What happened??" She repeated, shaking my shoulders, but I was unresponsive.
Aniyah and Adeola just stood behind Estrea and Nadia, their faces curtained with worry.
I looked up as Lacey's parents walked out of the house. Her mom had reddish brown hair that complimented her pale skin and brown eyes. Her father just had plain light brown hair, that was wavy and he, as well, had brown eyes. Both of them had their pajamas on. Mrs. Laurel's cheeks were coated with black as her mascara streamed down her face along with her never ending tears. She was hugging Mr. Laurel. He was, also, crying.
"KAITLIN!!" Estrea and Nadia yelled in unison. My name rang through my ears. That's the last thing I remembered of Lacey.
"Lacey is...she's...she's....DEAD!" The word seemed to echo in our ears. I began to sob even harder. Each and every one of my best friends stood there, completely and utterly shocked. Noone said a single thing.
As if on cue, the ambulance walked out of the house carrying a big black bag. Big enough to carry a body.
I turned, unable to watch anymore. Estrea hugged me again. Adeola, Aniyah, and Nadia joined in a group hug.
I jolted up and almost landed on the floor. I was sweating and breathing heavily. I sat in my bed, remembering that dreadful night, wanting to forget it. That memory is almost a year old, and it has been haunting me every night since.
I slowly got out of bed, so not ready for another first day of school. Walking over to my dresser, I looked in the mirror. My copper-ish brown colored hair looks shorter than normal because it is messy from moving around while I was asleep but, it normally falls down to my underarms. My gray-ish eyes look tired, like I hadn't gotten enough sleep, but I had been sleeping for a full ten hours. My skin is heading towards being tan. I have few freckles that were sprinkled across my nose which was a medium size and in between being pointy and rounded.
I grabbed some clothes, jean shorts, a pink T-shirt, and my underwear and bra and walked into the bathroom. I took a shower, got dressed, washed my faced, brushed my straight hair and my pearly whites, and finally put on a little mascara.
It was 6:00 a.m. I still had some time until school started. I walked downstairs and grabbed a granola bar to eat as I waited for Estrea to come pick me up. I packed my lunch, a bologna sammich (as I say it), some potato chips, and a chocolate pudding.
By the time I put everything in a paper bag, put it in my backpack, put all the extra stuff from the sammich away, and pulled on my pink converse, I heard a car horn. It was probably Estrea.
I walked out of the house, locking the door before heading towards Estrea's car.
"Ready for a new year, Estrea?" I asked, totally calmed from earlier.
Estrea was actually really pretty. She had dark brown, almost black straight hair that framed her face and fell just below her shoulders. Her eyes were a very rare violet and long, thick eye lashes. Her small nose fitted her face perfectly, with her naturally reddish pink lips and pale skin. She was wearing a black skirt with a white tank which had some kind of weird black design on it and black flip flops.
"Always." I think she was being a bit sarcastic. "We're picking everyone up since it's the first day of school." She said as she started to drive.
"Alright." We would probably be heading to Aniyah's house first, since her house was the closest to mine.
About two minutes later, when we arrived to Aniyah's house, she was already walking towards the street, right where we would be stopping. She got in the car and we started driving to Nadia's house. Aniyah was an african beauty. Her long black hair flowed down to the small of her back. She had bangs that swung to the side of her face just above her eye brows. Her nose was a little over-sized but, it looked good on her. She was wearing a jean skirt and a tight sky blue shirt that advertised the word hollister in white across her chest, and white slip on sneakers.
"Hey guys!" Aniyah said, sounding excited.
"Heyyy. We're picking up Nadia and Adeola too!" Estrea beamed.
"M'kay!" Aniyah replied.
As we rode up the drive way, Estrea honked the horn and Nadia came racing out of her house and hopped into the car.
"Junior year!!! Woooo!" Nadia screamed.
"Jeeeezz Nadia! You could wake up a fucking grave yard with those lungs!" We all laughed, except Aniyah who seemed to be completely serious.
If you've ever seen Legally Blonde, the brunette harvard girl that is the main character's (what's her name?) like total enemy, well that's pretty much what Nadia looked like. Nadia was wearing jeans that flared out at the bottom and a baggy white shirt that screamed Got Milk? with black vans.
As we sat outside of Adeola's house, she came running, practically tripping over her own feet.
"Heeyy-aa losers! Long time no talk!" she said sarcastically, and again, we all laughed.
Most people know Adeola as quiet and shy, but once you're her friend, she's the complete opposite. Adeola had long silky black hair. Her hair was always in perfect curls but today she decided to straighten it... Her dark green eyes made her stand out but she was the tannest of us all. She has a small rounded nose and pink lips. She was wearing gray skinny jeans and a black and white shirt that had diagonal zebra strips. She was also wearing vans.
About five minutes later, we were at school and I was staring out the window at our Junior year.
