Something was wrong, really wrong about this place but I couldn't put my finger on it. These men dressed like they could afford anything but we were here in this old run down building. The floor could use a quick buff, the walls were made out of stone, chipped stone. There were water stains on the ceiling. Walking down the hall I noticed the lights flicker on and off. No decent power company around? I waited for an smart ass remark but I never got one apparently he couldn't read minds like Jeremiah. It was so strange. I never met anyone who could read minds and the ones on TV that said they could - I didn't believe them either.
"Can I ask what is going on now?" I blurted out in the pure silence.
"Yes, you can." That was all Roger said as he continued walking.
"Well...?"
"You are our missing link."
"Missing link?"
"Yes, our missing link."
"For what exactly?"
Again, no answers. This is complete bullshit. I know this may make me sound like I was five but; I wanted to go home. I still didn't know where I was or why I was there. I continued to follow this male down the narrow hallway. I glanced into room after room. I noticed people in all of them. Regular people, like myself. I wondered if maybe they were lost too - or confused.
Finally we came to a room that was empty. It had a wooden table unfolded with grey and rusted metal chairs that wer slid underneath. Roger buttoned up his blazer smoothing it out before taking a seat. He pushed up his glasses with his pointer finger and glanced at me.
"Well, are you going to sit down, or not?" He asked.
I watched him. My eyes never left him. My eyes traced him and every single one of his movements. I didn't trust this man, I didn't trust this place. I never would. Interesting enough, he gestured his hand towards the chair across from him on the other side of the table. I never took my eyes off of him. I did sit down though. I pulled the chair away from the table and sat down into the cold metal chair.
"Now that I have got you to finally sit down. I will explain why you're here." Roger blurted out.
Finally, thank God. I thought I was never going to figure out where I was, why I was here or anything. Every question I asked always went unanswered until now.
"Alright, spill."
"Dalton, you're a weapon."
"A weapon?" I cocked my eyebrow.
"Yes, a weapon."
Okay, now maybe I see why all those questions were unanswered, I still didn't understand now that I knew.
"What do you mean, a weapon - like, of mass destruction?"
This caused Roger to laugh whole heartedly. He couldn't stop. I was serious though and he could tell by my reaction. I had my arms crossed over my chest and my eyes narrowed. He stopped laughing and took a breath putting his hand out to stop himself.
"My apologies. That just made me chuckle." He said chuckling once more. "Not of mass destruction, though you are dangerous."
"Dangerous? I'd never hurt anyone and I've never harmed anyone."
"Not that you remember." He explained.
"Remember? What -- what are you talking about?"
Roger stood from his chair and walked around the table to me. I jumped back a bit not knowing what to expect. He could see I was tense. He placed a hand on my shoulder.
"Dalton, I thought we were past this. I can't make it any more clearer that I'm not going to hurt you."
I relaxed.
"That's better, now by weapon. I meant, our weapon."
"Our?"
"Yes, our."
"See, you belong to us. Dalton."
I stood in defense.
"I don't belong to anyone!" I yelled. I grabbed the corners of the table and flipped it over immediately dashing out the door. I was running so fast I'd believe I was beating the devil. I kept running and never looked back. Two men were blocking my way out. I stopped dead in my tracks and stumbled forward a bit. They walked towards me. I grabbed one of their arms and slung him against the wall while I grabbed the other in a headlock. The other finally collected himself after I threw him against the wall and charged towards me. I kneed him right in the nose breaking it instantly. He screamed out in pain. The other picked me up in his arms and threw me against the wall. I groaned in agony. Just then, he lifted his foot like he was ready to step on me. I grabbed his leg and pushed the knee cap in making his leg fold like a wallet. He screamed and fell. He started scooting away. I grabbed him by his collar and picked him up. In the corner of my eye I noticed a glimpse of something shiny. The man with the broken nose was ready to stab me. I let him get a little closer. When he was close enough I picked the guy up from the floor and quickly spun around making his partner stab him. I dropped him. One down, one to go. He fell by his partner stating he was sorry. He was angry now. I heard him practically growl at me. I took a step back and waited for his attack. Just then, again. Darkness.
