A young girl sat in a vast meadow all lush green with long strands of delicate fronds. Ferns waved. The sky was clear blue. Fluffy clouds stretched the horizon as far as the eye could see.

She tipped her head slightly to one side allowing the breeze to graze her  pretty face. Copper blue coils held together by a pastel pink bow that danced in the wind. Peering intently at something in her hands in which we could not view for the grass obscured our view. The wind picked up suddenly, and she turned to face the sky above.

Thick eyelashes adorned her wishful bright aqua eyes drowning in wonder. A single sigh escaped her lips and was lost to the gale. The collar of her dress ruffled as well.

Anticipation. The girl was waiting for something, so eagerly she was like a little bird almost ready to leave its nest for the first time ever. Excitement. It was happening. The sky turned gray as storm clouds rolled in by the dozen. Crows cawed and took flight. Frogs and toads burst into song. The wind roared and picked up velocity.  A storm was brewing. It will rain soon.

A little boy hidden not far away was peeking at her from behind a bush. His tiny palms clasping the leaves of the undergrowth, crushing them to tiny bits. Was it time....? His dark eyes and tanned complexion remained hidden in the shadows. But his large eyes reflected the girl not far from him. Was she really...?The wind roared behind him and beside him. It was Now or never. He reached into his ragged shirt and pulled out something metallic that hung on a cord around his neck.

The girl stood.

She turned in a circle.Surveying her place. The wind played with her skirt.

A drop of water fell onto her nose tip. Then another onto her arm. Then another. Soon the rain graduated into a massive downpour. Raindrops cascaded down her arms and face.

Yet. She was completely dry.

How she loved rain.

A lanky boy in a white mask appeared before her. His eyes burning with uneasiness. More in masks surrounded her. Ten? Twenty?

She reached up to the bow at the back of her head with a hand and pulled at a strand of her ribbon. The bow came away and her hair spilled to her shoulders like a shower of glittering diamonds. She held the ribbon in both hands and pulled it taut.

The rain dribbled on the boys. They all looked weak. Startled fawns.

One of them spoke first. " we ch.. challenge you to a duel."

The girl lashed out her ribbon as a whip and in the instant the sky struck with thunder and lightning.

The rain had stopped.

The bodies  lay crumpled in the wet grass.

The girl bent down to remove a boy's mask. The boy looked malnourished and overworked. His complexion was serene when he had died, relieved even. She placed a hand on his chest. Ribs. She could feel them. She pressed.

The body glowed and dissolved into dust.

Without looking up, she spoke. " I know you're there. Show yourself." She said gently without a hint of threat.

A little dark haired boy with a necklace materialized from behind a bush. He stopped before her. She reached down to stroke his hair. The rain started again. Slowly, gently, the black dye was stripped from his hair. In its place was an icy white. She snapped her fingers. His eyes returned to pale purple.

" Who do you seek, young one? "

"My mother."

He took off his necklace. A bomb hung there. He smashed it to the ground. Green Fire erupted into a horrifying massive explosion that annihilated the entire mountainside. The ground shook and trees burned. The mountain was no more. Not to mention the meadow.

Later on, a memorial statue was erected in honor of the little boy's selfless act of bravery.

The demon was dead. And the boy was united with his mother once and for all.
