Sawada Tsunayoshi was always a dear child. He was obedient and kind, and was undeniably a little saint with the smile of an angel. He was well known as a precious little baby of Namimori. Everyone liked him, as he was adorable, nice, and sweet to everyone.
But it all began on the last day of preschool, when he picked up a baseball bat and thoroughly smashed every window he could find.
-
And why exactly did he do that?
There really wasn't much of a reason.
It was simply because he felt like it. He was just simply tired of everything. Of this weakness-- of this babying-- of this boring routine and of this useless lifestyle.
Sawada Tsunayoshi. If anyone knew him, it was as 'Dame-Tsuna', as 'No-good Tsuna'. The clumsy one that tripped over air all the time, and had not much of an expertise in anything.
But hey, no one ever said he could never stand up for himself.
In fact, that one day in preschool wasn't the end of it.
The day right after, he had apparently got a into a rut with some of his bullies that were stuck in the same detention class as him.
Broken tables, broken chairs, and a hospital rushing into school left the teacher traumatized.
The rumours didn't spread. They didn't. All witnesses had been too traumatized-- and even if they spoke, everyone threw it off as a joke or a delusion.
Because... really? Dame-Tsuna? Beating up a bunch of the stronger guys in school? Surely, they must've been hallucinating!
And the violence did not stop there.
He spent half of winter vacation out of the house. It's unknown where he was, but each time he wore a disguise. A beanie that concealed his spiky, voluminous hair; and a sweater that he usually didn't wear out. And when he returned, he'd be caked in blood in a few places.
When asked where he went-- he would answer simply, "I was out."
When questioned of his motives, he would answer with a smile that "It's fun."
And for a whole long month, Tsunayoshi was a feared monster that haunted his classmates. When he was reported, everyone was dealt with the same response:
"Dame-Tsuna beat you up?" with a mocking tone of disbelief, "Were you guys dreaming or drunk?" followed by a laugh.
And Nana? She choked back the tears-- and simply washed those blood-stained clothes, longing for the day her son would come back to her.
And sure enough, her prayers were answered.
The rumours of him being a monster spread-- but it died out on the first day of elementary.
Tsuna was suddenly back to being 'Dame-Tsuna'. The clumsy, no-good, useless thing that everyone jeered at.
The ones that had been assaulted never forgot.
The ones that weren't continued spreading the no-good name around.

Present
"Hey, Yamamoto! Are you free this weekend? We're planning a trip out for the club and--"
Yamamoto was surprised to hear the sudden invite-- after all, he would've been more than glad to go. He would've been more than glad to go if he'd been informed beforehand.
"Sorry, guys," he had to reject the offer solemnly, "I have..." he shot a look at Tsuna, "plans this weekend."
The guy clicked his tongue and sot Tsuna a dirty look. "With Sawada?" he soudned offended, "C'mon, Yamamoto, you could hang out with us for a change! Like rejecting Dame-Tsuna once isn't gonna be a big deal!"
The sharp tone made Tsuna flinch a little, and Yamamoto's smile grew strained.
"Sorry, Daisuke," Yamamoto had to speak up again, trying quite hard to keep his calm tone, "I agreed with Tsuna first."
Daisuke puffed up a cheek in annoyance. "Man, Yamamoto, is the club or Dame-Tsuna more important to you?"
"Of course, Tsuna." Yamamoto responded without hesitation. He was very overdone with comparing them already.
Daisuke was appalled now. "Yamamoto, seriously." he was being really serious, "Like, everyone knows you two are friends, but you're our baseball team ace and you know we need you with us. Just because you and Dame-Tsuna are friends doesn't mean we're gonna allow Sawada to snatch you away from us."
This made Yamamoto's eyes narrow in irritation.
"Yeah!" another guy joined the conversation, "Since you've been with Dame-Tsuna, you haven't been hanging out with us, and because of that, your baseball skills are gonna drastically fall!"
"At this point, Yamamoto," Daisuke spoke up again, "You're gonna be useless and unneeded in the Baseball Club!"
*BAM!!*
The whole classroom instantly fell silent. Gokudera Hayato woke up from his nap, lifted his head, and his eyes widened.
Kyoko had her hand over her mouth.
Everyone, even Yamamoto, had their mouths hung open.
Everyone was shocked speechless-- because Tsuna had, at some point, passed Yamamoto, and landing a hard, solid punch into the wall right beside Daisuke.
The punch had made an incredibly loud, crackle as the paint burst open and cement crumbled out from its place.
Slowly, Tsuna removed his hand from the little crater it left in the wall.
Blood trickled from the new scrapes at his knuckles, and Tsuna promptly put his other hand over it, rubbing it gently to soothe the pain.
He turned to Daisuke-- an ominous glint in his eyes.
"You say something?" Tsuna taunted.
