There she lies given up on everything.

Buried in her hoodie on the side of the road.

Then talking you find out the hoodie isn't hers and the converse are happy memories, of what she left behind.

Hair covering her eyes, she lies there.

Freezing, shaking, thinking and hoping.

Freezing because the hoodie is worn thin.

Shaking because of the cold.

Thinking of everything she left behind.

And almost hoping that things will change.

In the alleyway cast off from everyone else as the cold tickles the remaining heat out of her.

Afraid of judgement, she hides her face from every passerby.

They look at her and look away, threatening themselves into not helping, or giving her money.

Thinking that their money will just go towards another fix.

When it doesn't.

It goes to food and going to back to school, so she can move on.

Here comes a group of guys who think they're funny.

There goes her jacket, her blanket and her shoes.

A kick goes to the stomach, then the face as I hear a threat that they'll be back for more.

So there she lies in her tank top, jeans and sock feet, giving up because her hope is gone.

I see her eyes shut and her chest expand, but not contract.

Sirens bounce around the brick buildings and I can't help but run.

So there she lies on a gurney and she finally gave up and won.
