Chapter Two

New Workplace & Floor Nineteen

My jaw dropped at the large building in front of me. To say I was shocked would be an understatement. The large and wide building seemed to go up for miles. I wonder if the man who runs it, something Styles' office is at the top? I shook my head to rid myself of those pointless thoughts and pulled into a parking space that only took me a few laps around the parking lot to find. I slammed my door shut, I stopped and glanced over at it. I let out a breath seeing as my door was okay and began to run across the parking lot. Gosh this is the most exercise I've gotten since I moved to New York. I threw open the door and ran through the sandstone tiled lobby to the front desk. I earned a few gawks from men and a few women in suits. I rested my arms on the front desk, heaving slightly and I looked at the woman at the front desk. She looked startled to be seeing a man like myself running through the lobby of one of the most successful companies known to record. And I'm working here, me. Of all people.

"Hello," she said slowly. "How can I help you?" She asked, the way she sat showed me that she thought she was better then me.

"I'm new, my names Niall Horan. I was supposed to be meeting up with a man named Ben." I explained to her, her eyebrows shot up slightly at the reference to the name 'Ben'.

"Sure," she said still slightly not convinced. She slowly picked up the phone with her perfectly manicured nails. She dialled a number and brought the black phone up to her face. Tucking her brown hair behind her ear. I let out a deep breath, glad I made it here on time.

"Hi Ben it's Mary-Anne," she said in a fake voice. "Umm there's a man here-" she said bringing the phone from her ear and covering the mouth piece. She mouthed out the words 'what's your name?'.

"Niall, Niall Horan." I told her resting my forearm on her desk.

"His name is Niall- oh okay Ben he's down in the lobby." She told him before hanging up the phone. "Mr. Coffee will be down soon, please take a seat." She said in a sweeter tone then before hand, she gestured to the blacks and white leather couches with high arm rests. I nodded and shot her a smile before walking over to the couch, these damn suit shoes are really uncomfortable.

I sat there for a few moments before a man with brown hair tied back into a low pony tail walked over to me, his deep blue suit made his blue eyes pop.

"Niall!" He said with a large grin, I returned the gesture and stood up. He extended his hand and we exchanged a firm hand shake.

"How was the move? All the way from Ireland am I correct?" He asked as we began to walk towards an elevator.

"Yes you're correct, the move was long and I hate plane trips. So just dandy." I joked making him chuckle and throw his head back a little as we walked into he elevator. A few men in there with us saw Ben and scuttled back slightly to give him some room.

"I bet," he said with a smile. We're going to the nineteenth floor." He told me, my jaw dropped slightly as I glanced at the elevator buttons that you pressed to go to your floor.

"How many floors is there?" I asked him furrowing my eyebrows at the elevator control panel.

"Twenty seven." He told me as the doors opened and the other men in the elevator poured out on level eleven. The elevator music played as we rode the elevator in silence before he asked the question I didn't really want him to ask.

"Were you late?" He asked me with a small smile, I chuckled and flushed slightly. "Don't sweat it," he told me lightly, slapping me lightly on the shoulder. "I almost threw up on my first day." He revealed making me stifle a laugh. The doors opened and we walked out of the elevator with smiles on our faces. The carpet was a navy blue colour and the skirting of the walls were a solid timber. A large desk that sat connected to the wall was made out of solid timber. A girl with fiery red hair looked up, her large framed glasses sat on the bridge of her nose. Judging by the wrinkles on her face and the withering of the underneath of her eyes I assumed she was around thirty five.

"Helen," Ben spoke from beside me. She smiled at him with her thin lips. "This is Niall, he's the new employee on the floor." Ben explained as the both of us walked up to her desk.

"Lovely to meet you," she greeted me kindly with a small hand extended for me to shake. I shook her small and slightly wrinkled hand in mine. "I hope you enjoy floor nineteen, the best floor of this whole joint." She joked, I cracked a smile and so did Bed. He waved and bid her goodbye before we walked down a short corridor.

"The brake room is to the right," he told me gesturing to his right as we walked. "Lunch brake is usually goes from 12 o'clock to one o'clock." He told me, I nodded remembering the important information he was telling me. We walked out into a large room, desks sat in close knit clusters with walls separating different sections of the company.

"On this floor it's the editors, like yourself and marketing." He explained gesturing to either side of the room. "This is your desk here," Ben told me as we walked up to an empty desk with a small thin cubical wall behind me. "I hope you have a nice day and if you have any question-"

"You can come and ask me." A woman spoke from my desk. I glanced over to see a rather attractive woman leaning against a desk identical to mine.

She was actually one of the most prettiest women I've seen all day. She was slightly larger then most woman around the stomach and thighs but boy did she have the breast size to make up for it. Her arms were crossed over her large bust which only made it seem larger, she had a sly smirk on her face as she flicked her long wavy caramel hair over her shoulder before smirking at us once again. Ben chuckled down to the ground which only made the unidentified woman grin more, the corners of her piercing gray eyes crinkle.

"Hello Alison," he greeted her with a chuckle. "This is Niall, Niall Horan." He introduced us, she walked over to me. Her white dress clung to her curves as she held a hand out for me to shake.

"Nice to meet you Niall," she spoke with a kind glint in her eye. We shook hands and she returned to her position, resting the backs of her thighs on her white desk. "Bye Ben, don't you have important COO things to do for Mr Styles?" She asked him, she was mocking him clearly but he looked like he could care less.

"Always a pleasure Alice," he said with a large smile before he turned to me. "There's a manuscript on your desk already. I expect it read, edited and arranged and placed on my desk by Wednesday morning. If you have any more questions, my office phone number is on your desk." He told me, I nodded once more and extended my hand out once more.

"Thank you again Mr Coffee, you won't regret it." I assured him as I shook his hand.

"I know I won't, see you around Mr. Horan," he said once more before tuning to Alice. "You too Miss. Alexandrea." He waved to her briefly before turning around and exiting our floor. Probably to go to his large office on level twenty seven.

"My names Alison Alexandrea, but every one just calls me Alice." She introduced herself kindly from our spots standing besides our desks. We both sat down, my desk chair spun slightly making me smile as I spun around in a full 360 turn.

"Like your chair?" She asked from the desk which was only about two feet from mine. I chuckled and nodded.

"It spins." I said with a grin, I couldn't believe I was actually sitting at my own desk, at my job, at mother fucking Styles Publishing. The thought that the fact I was living my dream made me shiver. Alice chuckled and I looked up to be met with three pairs of eyes all staring at me.

"Umm hi?"
