The next 3 weeks go by quickly and without talking to Tristan at all. Before I know it, it's the night before the full moon and I am dressing myself in all black with brown colored contacts so that my eyes don't glow, and a mask over that just in case. I slip out of the house at around 8 when it gets dark. There is a creepy sort of silence when in a neighborhood after everyone goes home for the night. It feels like anyone outside their house is up to no good. Which might actually be the proper feeling considering I'm out and I'm about to kidnap someone and then commit murder. It's made creepier by the scraping sounds of my boots on shingles. Below me I hear people mumbling about the "damn rats" as they eat dinner, and a couple of small kids jolting awake at the sound.
Finding sacrifices would be so much easier if I didn't care as much as I do. Anyway, I need to get back on track. I make it to my destination in about 10 minutes, and it's pitch black by the time I do, and I am now standing on the roof of a prison. Below me I can hear patrolling guards, and sleeping inmates. I wait until I am sure that nobody is looking out the window on my left side, and jump off the side, and jump off the building.
And hear a scream as I roll into the impact.
"God damn it," I mumble as the screaming continues.
I didn't think far enough to listen to the street. You would think that with two thousand years of experience I would know how to do this. I jumped right as a hooker was passing by on the street. She is currently running towards me. When she reaches me and sees me standing unscathed, her screaming stops.
"You stupid girl, now everybody in the prison probably knows I'm out here," I hiss at her.
"I'm sorry, i thought you... wait are you breaking out or trying to break someone out?"
I sigh and pull my mask off and pull out my contacts. She briefly has a face of shock when my mask comes off and she sees the face of a 17 year old girl, but that fades as I say, "You don't remember me from tonight at all. Turn around and go home."
She stands up straighter and walks off as if she is in a trance. "Fuck. I hope she wasn't homeless. She'll wander forever. Whatever."
I stop talking, put my mask on, and get back to work, no point in trying to keep my eyes from glowing at this point, putting the contacts back in would be too much of a hassle. I then listen closely to the sounds behind the door to the prison. It seems like anyone who heard the scream already looked outside and found nothing wrong, maybe a couple heading home or something, so I crouch at the locked door so that nobody can see me and slowly turn the knob. It doesn't open since it's locked, but I twist harder and the lock breaks with a metallic pop sound. I freeze but the only thing I hear is one of the inmates rolling over, and a guard spinning in circles in her chair in front of the security cameras. I open the door enough to slip through, but not enough for the streetlight to shine past the blind spot in the cameras.
I slowly push the door behind me closed, or as closed as I can get it considering I broke the knob, and slowly make my way down the hallway, staying as far away from the prison cameras as possible. I get down the hallway to the stairs with no problems, and soon find myself in front of the cell I wanted.
The inmate inside is awake, and keeps tossing and turning. It makes sense that a piece of garbage like him wouldn't be able to sleep. I reach to the door to his cell and break the lock as easily as I did with the front door. The noise of it breaking sends the man inside jumping to his feet, and the alarm sends me running into the room.
I smash him over the head with my fist, careful to only do it hard enough for him to pass out, not to kill him, and catch him as he slumps to the ground.
"Put him down and put your hands where I can see them!"
I turn around to see three guards with their guns trained on my head. I sling the unconscious man in my arms over my shoulders into a fireman's carry. "Let me past."
The guards turn around and move out of the way so I can walk past them. I walk halfway down the hallway, stop, turn around, and say, " you don't remember seeing me here. The prisoner just randomly disappeared in the night, and you will erase the security footage."
I turn back around and walk back the way I came, still avoiding guards, but saying fuck it about the security cameras. The footage is already getting deleted, and even if they get it back, I am wearing a mask anyway.
This whole thing is probably just going to be blamed on shitty guards anyway, and nobody will ever suspect me, even if there is a full blown investigation, they'll just assume that the prisoner broke out and skipped town immediately. That is, until they find his body floating in a lake. Or they notice that the broken knob on the prison has a hand print pressed into it.
Before I know it, it's almost midnight and I am walking down the stairs to my basement and strapping the unconscious man to a chair. He starts to stir and groan as soon as I start to arrange ingredients.
"Hey sleeping beauty, ready to help a great cause?"
"What?" he says groggily.
"Ugh nevermind, my sense of humor has never made much sense to anyone but me. Anyway, I'm gonna need you to shut up, it's about midnight, and I gotta start the spell. You didn't want to be alive anyway, after what you did to those kids right?"
"Wha-"
"Oh for God's sake," I say and grab his tongue.
He starts screaming and tries to pull back but I hold on harder and cut it off, tossing it into my bowl. His screams go silent as he starts to choke on his blood.
I cut my palm and let blood rush into the bowl, and then put a bunch of dry ingredients on top of all the blood. I light the bowl on fire, and then slit his throat, letting blood rush over the fire and put it out.
The same thing that happened last time, happens this time. Thunder rumbles, and I am hit with the feeling that I am one step closer to getting back what was stolen from me.
Now, if I can get rid of the only person that could possibly stop me from my goal. Tristan has to die. I told him not to tell anyone about what he saw, but magic isn't always guaranteed to work perfectly at all times.
I am going to have to talk to Selena and have her let me make friends with Tristan. I could do it anyway, but I'd rather not anger my friends within two months and be bullied. It wouldn't bother me, but it gets annoying.
I'm probably going to have to wait to kill Tristan for a while, as him making a new friend and then immediately getting murdered would be strange, but I'm going to optimistically plan for next month,. I don't want to waste a kill. I plan the next month as I get rid of the newest body.
