I had a nightmare last night. I vividly remember getting thrown across the lawn, and rolling. I had been looking at the note and next thing I know there's a loud-ʙᴏᴏᴍ.
And that was all. But it was enough. My mind made the night seem much worse than it actually was, as everything seemed to go in slow motion.
It made the trees look like monsters, with their branches like claws reaching for me. The grass seemed like thousands of thorns were hidden, the bright green giving a false sense of safety. And then I blacked out.
My consciousness returns slowly. I yawn and snuggle deeper into the comforter. It takes me a moment to realize my bed isn't this nice, and I shoot up, fully awake. Pain shoots through me, making me grunt and plop back down. I close my eyes just as a door creaks open, and soft footsteps walked in.
"Hello? A-are you awake?" A soft and low voice comes from close by, filled with worry. Opening an eye slowly, so as to not be blinded by light, I glanced to where the sound came from. There was a girl, about my age from the looks of it. She had light brown hair, with soft green eyes. The kind of eyes that shimmered even when there wasn't any light. Something twitched on her head, and I looked up, my mouth dropping open.
She laughs nervously, the light brown cat ears on her head moving down as if in embarrassment.
"It's the ears and tail, isn't it? You look like you haven't seen a Meif'wa before."
"..." I didn't respond, too busy trying to process the cat like features. They're just cosplay items, right? They had to be.
The cosplayer sits on the side of the bed, looking at me in worry.
"You should get some more rest. I think you're getting too worked up over these." She points to her ears, and then to her tail. I nod, my eyes looking at hers again, noticing how the pupil was somewhat slitted. Like a cat.
She nods, an innocent smile taking over her face. It was the kind of smile that made grandma's pinch cheeks. She got up and started to walk towards the door.
"Wait. What's your name?" I called out, talking for the first time since she came in. She looks surprised, but the expression soon melts into a blinding in-your-face smile.
"It's PanPan! Now, rest. You have a big day ahead of you!" She chirped, her eyes glittering. She then walks out, shutting the door.
I stare at the door for a moment longer, before I slowly lie back down. You can't think when you're asleep, and so I set out to do just that.
