Dick's eyes slowly opened as the light from the curtains blinded him. He winced back and put his hands over his face.
"Good morning, son." Dick's father, John, exclaimed as Dick got out of bed.
They had recently arrived in Gotham City from touring, they were in a trailer park and would perform later that night.
"Sunshine and rainbows today son, our first show in Gotham."
Dick wasn't his normal cheerful optimistic self. "This city is crime-ridden and it smells like my grandma's shoe."
"It's fine Dick, we're going to be fine. Don't forget, today is your mother's birthday, please tell me you got her a gift."
"Sure did, you know how she always called me her little robin because of how I flew through the air? Well, I got her this."
Dick's father inspected it and stepped back in awe. "That's so sweet of you Dick, she'll love it."
It was a brass ring with two robins kissing on the front. Dick's mother, Mary, was currently running out getting groceries when she came back Dick would give it to her.
Later, she came back, as soon as she walked in, she was greeted by a big hug by Dick, she put the groceries down and hugged him back.
"I love you, mom." He then reached into his pocket and held out the ring "Happy Birthday."Her jaw dropped and she hugged him again. "Thank you so much, that is so sweet of you Dick. I love you." She kissed him on his forehead and put on the ring.
"I love you too, Mom."
