"are you serious?" she sighs.

    i watch her through the screen as she runs her hands through her hair -something she did when she was upset. i felt so helpless, all that i could do was apologize. "i'm so sorry, baby."

"you promised me 'no matter what'." i could see a tear fall from one of her eyes.

    knowing that my baby was hurt felt like a deep cut in my already fragile heart. lauren had been on tour for the past five months with her bandmates. after so many failed attempts at meeting up on her days off, the both of us decided that i'd join them on their tour bus for a week so that we could see each other. but unfortunately, my boss had made a last minute decision to have the entire company go to a mandatory seminar.

"i know but like i told you, my boss gave me no choice. if i don't the-" she cut me off.

"but what if you say that you're like super sick? or that you had a family emergency?" she spoke with such hope, which made my heart hurt even more.

    i shook my head. i couldn't risk getting fired. "i'm sorry. i just can't. you know how important this job is to me."

"yes, y/n, i do know. 'cause you never seem to shut up about it. but what about me? how important am i to you? because the way this is going, it seems like i'm not at all."

"lauren, don't be ridiculous. you know how much you mean to me. how much i love you."

"ridiculous?" her eyebrows furrow in disbelief before she leans back and lets out a short chuckle. "you know what, y/n? i can't do this with you right now. all i was looking forward to these past couple weeks was how i'd get to see you soon. so sorry if i'm being 'ridiculous' because i'm upset that you have to cancel."

"lauren-"

"i'll talk to you tomorrow, y/n."

    with that, her face disappears from the screen. i sigh as i think about how i fucked up. i just wish i could be with her right now to take away her pain. but someone had to pay the bills for my house. i turned my phone off and lied down in the darkness, thinking about how everything went to shit.
