About a few weeks after Kodi had died I was finally allowed to leave the hospital. "How's your arm?" My mom asked. "It's fine." I responded. "And your head?" She asked. "Mom I'm fine!" I said. "Ok ok. I just want to make sure." She said. She drove me home and let me rest in my room. I lay down on my bed and opened up my phone. I went onto my social media and I posted and old photo of me and Kodi.
"It wasn't the best thing to witness your death, but I will always remember you Kodi bear:)! Rip Kodi Macintosh 200x-201x."
I smiled while looking at the photo. I walked over to my computer and started printing out pictures of Kodi and I. A little while later I took a walk down to the forest not too far from my house where Kodi and I made a fort not to long ago. I grabbed a piece of wooden board and grabbed my marker. I wrote down "Always Remember. Kodi Macintosh." And taped the pictures of Kodi to the wooden board. I stuck the board in the ground right next to the fort. I sat beside the fort for hours looking at the scratch marks and drawings on the inside of the fort. I remember in 3rd grade Kodi telling me that he loved me and that he wanted to marry me. I smiled at the memory. I also remembered that me and Kodi had a little wedding in this fort. I had brought all my stuffed animals, and I brought some ice cream sandwiches as a wedding cake. The wedding rings were tiny cheap plastic rings. From the corner of my eye I saw a tiny little box. I grabbed the box and opened it. In that little box, I saw a gorgeous diamond ring and a note inside.
"Dear Skylar. I remember all these memories in this fort we made years ago. I even remember telling you that I wanted to marry you! And I still do Skylar! I knew that someday you would come back to this fort if you were upset with me at some point. And if I did anything to make you upset, I'm very sorry that I did so. Take this ring, bring it to me, and I promise we'll be together. You promised that we would get married someday. And that someday shall be soon. Love you Sky.
-Kodi Bear."I started tearing up after I read that note. Kodi still wanted to marry me. I looked at the ring. It looked pretty new, but that's probably because it's never been worn. I put on the ring. I sighed, took it off and put it back in the box. This would only grieve me if I wore this all the time. I put the box in my hoodie pocket and walked back home. For at least a few hours after I came home, I kept looking at the ring. Wow. Kodi actually wanted to marry me.
The next day, my mom drove me to school. I brought the ring with me so I could show the others. I walked past Kodi's locker and saw a few notes saying "rest in peace Kodi Macintosh" and "we will miss you!" I couldn't believe that some people in this school actually cared about Kodi. I got to my locker which also had a few notes and gifts by it. "Hope you feel better Sky!", "we're sorry for your loss", and "Kodi is at peace now, he will watch over you!". I sighed and put my bag in my locker. Kaylie tackle hugged me. "Oh my gosh Skylar!! You're ok! I'm so sorry that Kodi passed." She said. "It's fine. I've been better over the past few days." I sighed. "Well I'm glad you're back and better!" She smiled. I smiled back and headed for my first class.
Throughout the entire day, people came up and hugged me saying that they're glad I'm back. It felt kinda nice to have people comfort me after a hard time. Everyone of my classes, I would look at the desk Kodi would be sitting at, and I would imagine him still sitting there. I pulled the ring out of my pocket and just stared at it. I can't believe that Kodi got me a ring. If he still were alive I would still keep it and think if we should be together. After school I walked home by myself. Ryan was walking behind me and caught up. "Skylar. I'm sorry that Kodi passed." He sighed. "I've been getting better. At least he's in a better place now right?" I asked. "Amen." He smiled. "Do you know anything about a ring?" I asked. "Nope. Why?" He responded. I pulled the ring out of my pocket and showed him. "I was at the fort me and him made a few years ago and found this ring. I found a note along with it saying that this ring was a proposal ring." I sigh. "Ah man. That's cute but honestly really sad." He said. "Yea." I mumbled. "Well I gotta go Sky. I'll see ya at school tomorrow." He waved goodbye. "Bye." I said. I put the ring back in my pocket and walked the rest way home.
