Alex Gaskarth was a very happy person. He had friends, good grades, a wonderful family... He couldn't ask for more.
Until Jack came along.
Jack Barakat was a boy that just moved to town, and Alex was downright obsessed with him from the second he saw him on the bleachers during lunch hour.
"Whoa, who is that?" he asked his best friend, Zack.
"Him?" Zack asked, pointing to Jack. Alex nodded, his gaze locked on the boy. "That's Jack. He's the new kid."
"What's he like?" Alex asked curiously, his stomach doing flops.
"How the fuck should I know?" his friend laughed. "Go talk to him!"
"No!" Alex gasped, looking at Zack with an appalled expression. "I can't."
"Why not? He's just a boy."
Alex shook his head and continued to watch the boy on the bleachers read his book and tap his foot to the music he was listening to.
He wasn't just a boy. Alex knew.
So, he made a plan.
After many long hours of thinking and brainstorming, his plan was perfect. And on April 6th, he put his plan in action.
Alex made sure that between every hour, he'd "accidentally" bump into Jack and they'd chit-chat before Alex would say he'd had to go and scurry off towards his next class, but he would look back behind him to see if Jack was watching him. Each day he wasn't, Alex would just repeat the process the next day. This went on for about two and a half weeks, and during each two minute talks between each passing hour, Alex learned a lot about Jack.
Jack told him about his family, his favorite band (Blink 182), and a lot of other things. Alex grew to really enjoy Jack's company, and finally, on April 28th (yes, he was paying attention to the days), when Alex glanced back at Jack, he was watching him leave.
At lunch that day, Jack had come over by Alex and Jack, which was strange because he usually sat by his friends-Kellin and Vic. The couple became friends with Jack the first day he got
here, and the three have been practically inseparable since.
"Oh, Jack," Alex greeted with a smile as Jack sat next to him.
"Hi, Alex," Jack replied with a nod. "Zack."
"Yo," Zack nodded to Jack, then continued to eat his food, an ear bud in his ear.
"So, how come you're sitting over here?" Alex asked Jack, picking up a carrot and munching on it as he waited for a reply.
"Wanted to," Jack said simply, opening his milk carton. "Why are you sitting over here?"
"I always sit over here," the shorter boy snorted, rolling his eyes.
"Don't get sassy, I was just asking."
"I am not getting sassy," Alex huffed, "But seriously, why are you sitting here? You usually sit by Quinn and Fuentes."
"Ah, they get too couple-y. It's sickening, really. Almost like they just can't keep their hands off of each other," Jack said and took a drink of his milk. "Why, do you not want me here? I can go back other there if you want-"
"No, no!" Alex said, maybe a little too quickly. "I-I mean, nah, bro, I was just wondering."
"Okay... bro," Jack chuckled, rolling his eyes fondly. Alex cracked a smile and they both started to eat their lunch, small talk popping in every now and then. Alex's phone vibrated and Zack looked at him, like he was waiting for something. With a slightly confused expression, Alex pulled out his phone to find a text from Zack.
